Review: THE NERD Waxes Nostalgic at ALLEY THEATRE

THE NERD is frankly still THE NERD, and the director, Brandon Weinbrenner, doesn’t reinvent much of anything. There’s nothing new or fresh, and the script is presented almost as if it would have run back in 1981. There is no discernable reason to remount this show save for the idea that it was fun back in the day.

Review: Feminist Farce 'POTUS: OR, BEHIND EVERY GREAT DUMBASS ARE SEVEN WOMEN TRYING TO KEEP HIM ALIVE' is a Joyful Rollercoaster of Hilarity While Asking Real Questions

'POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dubmass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive' is described as a 'feminist farce', which I think is the best definition of this delectable piece. I stepped into the theater one moment, and boom! It was done, flying by, and what a joy it was.

BWW Review: Greek God, Diane, Wreaks Havoc in Rec Room Arts HURRICANE DIANE

The unconventional and oddball comedy from the Pulitzer Prize finalist, Madeleine George, sees the Greek god, Dionysus, reenter civilization disguised as a butch gardener, Diane. The god's mission to seduce mortal women and help end climate change creates a story that elicits guttural laughs and a great night of Houston theatre.

BWW Review: The Alley Theatre Presents a Challenging Portrait of the U.S. in AMERIKIN

There's a question at the heart of Chisa Hutchison Amerikin. Should we sympathize with hateful people? The piece in many ways acts as an exercise in empathy. We have characters willing to do reprehensible things yet suffer great turmoil. Do they deserve sympathy? If they do, whose job is it to give it to them?

BWW Review: THE DOYLE AND DEBBIE SHOW Sees Red People at Stages Repertory Theatre

Some people will love this one, but I found it theatrically stunted and a bit offensive in that it would be funnier if I were far more conservative. It will play best with people who unapologetically sport their MAGA hats and follow certain Twitter accounts without remorse.
