Beth Henley's Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy Crimes of the Heart will open at the Broward Stage Door Theatre on January 17th, and run through February 23rd. Sometimes described as Hannah and Her Sisters with a Southern accent, Crimes of the Heart has often been named one of the finest plays in American Theatre. Along with the 1981 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the play was awarded the 1981 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play, and the 1982 Theatre World Award.

Called "wild and entertaining, yet dramatic and relatable", the play examines the essence of family bonds; the relationship between sisters as friends; that "crazy" person in everyone's family; and the narrow-mindedness of people in the South.

Director Michael Leeds explains: "This heart-warming comedy follows the intrigues and infidelities surrounding the three MaGrath sisters, who reunite in their hometown of Hazelhurst, Mississippi when Babe MaGrath is arrested for shooting her husband, 'because she was havin' a bad day,'" he says. " And the day doesn't improve when her sister Lenny, trying to celebrate her 30th birthday, learns her horse has just been struck by lightning, and sister Meg shows up direct from the 'looney bin'. But despite their feuding and fussing, the sisters are determined to prevent Babe being hauled off to jail because, well, blood is thicker than molasses.

Meredith Bartmon, Faiza Cherie, and Ursula Anderman will play Lenny, Meg, and Babe MaGrath. Erin Pittleman, Samuel Floyd, and Nicholas Wilder round out Stage Door's talented cast.

Crimes of the Heart will run from January 17 through February 23 at The Broward Stage Door Theatre in Coral Springs. The theatre is located at 8036 Sample Road, in Coral Springs.
