By: Ashlee Latimer Oct. 11, 2016
The Warner Theatre has announced the formation of a new strategic partnership with The Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN),continuing a rich tradition of collaboration between the two organizations and establishing a new engagement center in Torrington. This new engagement center will include state-of-the-art educational facilities and an expanded news bureau, among other properties.
Intended to expand CPBN's presence and ongoing initiatives throughout the state, the engagement center will include a designated, furnished classroom where CPBN and the Warner Theatre's new Broadcast Journalism and Digital Media course will be offered during the fall of 2016. Based on CPBN's successful Learning Lab in Hartford and taught by Connecticut Public Radio (WNPR) journalists, this 10-week intensive course will lead high school juniors and seniors through all aspects of responsible journalism: from identifying a compelling story to developing vital skills in digital storytelling. Students will also have the opportunity to formally pitch their ideas to WNPR professionals for widespread distribution. "CPBN is pleased to solidify our longtime relationship with the Warner Theatre, expanding the educational and cultural offerings of both organizations throughout northwest Connecticut," says CPBN President and CEO Jerry Franklin. "By establishing an engagement center in Torrington, we hope to magnify our reach so that more people will have access to the benefits of public media."The Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN) is home to CPTV, WNPR and the Learning Lab. CPTV is a locally and nationally recognized producer and presenter of quality public television programming, including original documentaries, public affairs and educational programming. WNPR is an affiliate of National Public Radio, Public Radio International and American Public Media. The Learning Lab serves high school juniors and seniors through a partnership with Hartford Public Schools and the Journalism and Media Academy Magnet School. It is also home to the Institute for Advanced Media, a program that provides the men and women of our armed forces and adult learners an opportunity to learn skills necessary for the 21st century digital media workplace.
