Michelle Dowdy Presents 'A Brass Act' at The Metropolitan Room, 3/3
Michelle Dowdy made her Broadway Debut in the Tony Award winning musical Hairspray as Tracy Turnblad after booking the show in high school in 2005. She has been a favorite in the nightlife community and a featured performer in Broadway Bares from 2006 to 2013. She will also be playing the role of Tracy in the upcoming Royal Caribbean Cruise production of Hairspray.
A Brass Act features songs from the American Songbook. With Dowdy's big, lush voice, the choice of music is eclectic; the theme is "Brass," is a statement of the emotional and demanding repertoire she selects. Dowdy is singing familiar pieces as a powerful response to life, not death or despair. This young woman is known to present genuinely a fresh perception of classic songs.
Mitchell Walker, who created and directed A Brass Act, will repeat his role again with Dylan Glatthorn as Musical Director. Glatthorn is an American composer and lyricist and the two-time recipient of the Alan Menken Award with his B.M. and Masters degrees from New York University. Walker is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, CCM in Musical Theatre.
The album will be released on LIMITED EDITION Vinyl copy for order at the concert and available for digital download at www.abrassact.com and on iTunes.
A Brass Act is on Monday March 3rd at 9:30pm (doors open at 9:00pm). The cost is $20 plus a two drink minimum. The Metropolitan Room is located at 34 W 22nd St (Bet. 5th and 6th Ave).
