Cherry Picking is an annual opportunity for writers, both established and burgeoning, to create new material for performance in one night of staged reading. Each year, a group of producers gathers and develops the theme for Cherry Picking. This annual meeting allows the creative team to examine issues that are somehow charged. This may be a hot topic politically, a fascinating sociological phenomenon, a nagging question, a captivating image, and so on.

A "Call for Submissions" is distributed and writers are invited to tackle the challenge of writing a short play based on the given theme or assignment. This year's theme is "Sweet Sixteen."

On August 13th, Ed Yong and Maria Konnikova, two of the best science writers working today will discuss that tension and how they approached it in their respective new books-I Contain Multitudes, about microbiomes and the amazing partnerships between animals and microbes; and The Confidence Game, about the minds, motives, and methods of con artists.

It's easy to think we know the past, that it's a simple story about what happened before we got here. It's also easy to think the past is a mystery, fundamentally unknowable because of the impossibility of going back to check. The truth is rather wonderfully and frustratingly in between, and studying the past is a constant struggle to understand what we can and can't know.

For the 11th edition of the CURRENT SESSIONS' biannual performance series of contemporary movement. MOVEMENT CURRENCY will focus on how bodies produce, exchange, and perform within systems of value, drawing on figurative and ethnographic practices to consider the lineage of choreographies which qualify our social identity. Presented as four distinct programs: Risk, Debt, Savings, and Credit, MOVEMENT CURRENCY incorporates somatic and improvisational practices, as well as works examining personal movement histories, blackness, queerness, and cultural memory.
