As BWW reported yesterday, legendary song and dance man Dick Van Dyke confirmed that he will be appearing in the highly anticipated MARY POPPINS reboot from Disney. This week, the 91-year-old spoke to ET exclusively and revealed further details about the role he will play in the project.

In the 1964 original film, the actor portrayed chimney sweep Bert, but also took on double duty as the elderly bank manager, Mr. Dawes. "They wanted me to play the son of the old banker," shared Van Dyke of his role in the upcoming film. "And this time there's no four hours in the makeup chair, I grew into the part!"

While production on MARY POPPINS RETURNS is already underway, the Emmy winner will not be filming his cameo until next year. "I'll be going to London in the spring to do my role," he tells ET, "and I get to do a little song and dance number." He adds, "I gotta be a part of it."

Van Dyke also praised his fellow 'Poppins' cast members, including Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Meryl Streep. "Sounds like a good cast!" joked the Tony winner. Watch the interview below!

MARY POPPINS RETURNS will be helmed by Rob Marshall, who will also produce alongside John DeLuca and Marc Platt. The film is expected to hit theaters on Christmas Day, 2018.
