New plays by Craig Lucas*†, Will Eno, Lynn Nottage, Jose Rivera, Thomas Bradshaw, Zayd Dohrn, and Emily Schwend will have their world premiere on May 18th inside a mobile 4-by-8-foot theatre where one actor will perform one short play for just one audience member at a time.

The original plays comprise I'm Not the Stranger You Think I Am, the latest production from Theatre for One, the acclaimed one-on-one theatre company founded by its Artistic Director Christine Jones*, the director of the hit immersive extravaganzaQueen of the Night and the Tony Award-winning set designer of American Idiot andSpring Awakening. Rooted in the belief that emotional intimacy is possible at any moment, at any time, and with any person, each short play in I'm Not the Stranger You Think I Am was specially commissioned for production in Theatre for One's custom-designed, state-of-the-art performance space.

Presented by Arts Brookfield and True Love Productions, I'm Not the Stranger You Think I Am will be performed for free in three public venues throughout Manhattan from May 18 - June 6: the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place (May 18 - 24), Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan (May 27 - 31), and Midtown's Grace Building Plaza (June 2 - 6). Each of the three sites is owned and operated by Brookfield Property Partners.

At each performance of I'm Not the Stranger You Think I Am, audience members will line up to take a turn experiencing one of the seven short plays, which will be performed by one of six different actors. Once each five-minute performance is over, the audience member can get back on the queue to watch another play. Conceived by Jones and designed by the architecture firm LO-TEK, the small self-contained theatre, complete with theatrical lighting, sound, and design, offers just enough room for one performer and one audience member, intensifying the intimate nature of live performance.

The show's varying locations will shape the audience experience, from the sun-drenched glass atrium of the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place to tree-lined Zuccotti Park to the midtown bustle of the Grace Building.

"Theatre for One shares Arts Brookfield's commitment to re-imagining the arts for public spaces and engaging audiences in new and unexpected ways. Together, with these world-class playwrights, we are taking on contemporary issues that we all grapple with," said Debra Simon, vice president and artistic director of Arts Brookfield. "These 5-minute plays cover thought-provoking topics that impact us all- love, violence, politics, etc. It's meaty material. We are thrilled to bring this literally singular theatrical experience to audiences throughout New York City."

"Theatre for One creates a relationship between two people in a suspended moment of space and time," said Jones. "The actor gives the gift of a private performance, and the audience gives the actor the gift of their full attention. This mutual investment heightens the dramatic experience and shines a light on the narrative being shared between them."
