Hershey Area Playhouse is proud to present the second production of its newly relaunched Dark Night Series, A Weekend of One Acts, featuring six one-act plays, written by local area playwrights.

"This is The Playhouse's first Weekend of One Acts," said Mark Cuddy, Dark Night Series committee member, Mark Cuddy. "This production will entertain audiences six times each evening with these varied stories, created by playwrights with ties to our theater community, and performed by actors both familiar and new to our Playhouse audiences."

In The Imposter's Snow Cone Machine, written by Paul Hood and directed by Dr. Kevin Pry, a father and son are forced to reconnect after the loss of a family member, when they discover an old family heirloom in the attic.

Dr. Pry is also directing Bread, a story of two fathers - one in Pennsylvania, the other in war-torn Iraq - who communicate via the Internet, while struggling to keep their tiny family bakeries afloat. Bread is written by Randy Gross.

In A Matter of Taste, written by Cindy Dlugolecki and directed by Gale Sherrid, two stylish catering rivals find that an old paramour becomes a catalyst for their bonding and reconnection as friends.

Sherrid is also directing Writer's Block, a story about a young woman playwright who discovers that her life might not be all she thought it was. She finds that she herself might be a character in a play. Writer's Block is written by Marj Bicknell.

And The Giants Fell examines the events leading up to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and our nation's reaction to the events. Through four sections, the play examines our thoughts and reactions of the participants and victims of this historic event. And The Giants Fell is written by Todd Ford and directed by Matthew Ford.

In Love For Real, Not Fade Away, written by George Nye and directed by Jennifer Feldser, two families discover that over time, changes come full cycle.

A Weekend of One Acts runs Aug. 12-13, 2016 at The Playhouse, located at 830 Cherry Drive, Hershey. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available by visiting www.HersheyAreaPlayhouse.com or by calling The Playhouse's box office at 717-533- 8525.

The Playhouse adopted the term "Dark Night," a term used by theatres when there is not a performance scheduled, a few years ago as part of a vision to incorporate a wider variety of entertainment to complement its five mainstage shows. The Playhouse is relaunching its Dark Night Series in 2016, bringing additional entertainment options, including different, edgier content shows to its mainstage. It will also include musical acts, as well as original works, comedy acts, and special events.
