KINKY BOOTS welcomes RENT Cuba!

One of Broadway's biggest recent hits, the 2013 Tony Award-winning Best Musical KINKY BOOTS, recently celebrated its second anniversary and the cast of the recent groundbreaking Cuban production of rock musical RENT stopped by to take in the show this weekend and a photo of the casts together onstage is now available to view.

The official Facebook page posted the pic along with the message earlier today, sharing, "This weekend we were joined by the cast of the Cuban production of RENT - the first musical to ever play the country. This was the troupe's first trip to NYC, and Kinky Boots was their first Broadway show. What a fabulous honor! Break legs - not heels!"

Previously, KINKY BOOTS bookwriter Harvey Fierstein commented on the event, sharing, "The Cuban cast of RENT saw @KinkyBootsBway 2nite. It's the 1st B'way musical they've ever seen. Thank you, President OBAMA! Sanity at last."

Of note, RENT was part of Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment's ongoing mission to bring Broadway musical theatre to new and emerging markets around the globe. The Spanish translation of the musical opened on Christmas Eve at Havana's Bertolt Brecht Theatre to dignitaries and theater people invited by the Cuban National Council of Performing Arts and to the general public on Friday, December 26, 2014.

KINKY BOOTS is a screen-to-stage adaptation of the 2005 British indie film featuring a score by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, who took home a 2013 Best Score Tony Award for her efforts on the musical collaboration with playwright, actor and activist Harvey Fierstein and director/choreographer Jerry Mitchell.

The official description of Kinky Boots is as follows: "Charlie Price has suddenly inherited his father's shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Trying to live up to his father's legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola. A fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos, Lola turns out to be the one person who can help Charlie become the man he's meant to be. As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible... and discovers that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world. Featuring direction and Tony-winning choreography by Jerry Mitchell and a spectacularly uplifting book by four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein, KINKY BOOTS is the must-see new musical that proves that sometimes, the best way to fit in is to stand out!"
