Broadway's Lawrence Hamilton Passes Away at 59

According to Arkansas Online, Broadway star Lawrence Hamilton passed away yesterday at age 59 due to complications from surgery. Hamilton was born in Arkansas in 1954. Aside from performing on Broadway, he also studied Music Education and taught as a professor.

Hamilton's last Broadway role was as Rev in the original production of Play On! in 1997. He also was a part of the original productions of both Jelly's Last Jam (1992) and Uptown...It's Hot! (1986). Other stage credits include Broadway's The Wiz (1984) and Porgy and Bess (1983) as well as the West End's The Hot Mikado (1995).

Among his regional theatre credits are Fences, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Piano Lesson, Looking Over the President's Shoulder, Big River, Ain't Misbehavin', Souvenir and Crowns.

He appeared on screen in The Night They Saved Christmas, All My Children, The Cotton Club and The Last Ride.
