Amy Ryan to Join Tom Hanks & Mark Rylance in Steven Spielberg's Cold War Thriller; Billy Magnussen & Alan Alda in Talks

According to Deadline, Amy Ryan has signed on to join Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance in Steven Spielberg's upcoming Cold War thriller, hitting theaters on Oct. 6, 2015. In addition, the report notes that Alan Alda, Billy Magnussen, and Eve Hewson are nearing deals to board the film

Though the project has yet to receive an official title, the report states that it follows "James Donovan, a prominent American attorney enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War to slip behind the iron curtain to negotiate the release of a pilot captured when his U2 spy plane was shot down over Russia."

Spielberg will direct and produce the film, written by the Coen brothers.

Ryan made her off-Broadway debut in The Westside Theatre's 1987 production of A Shayna Maidel, playing the role of Hanna. The following year she was seen in the Second Stage Theatre Company's revival of The Rimers of Eldritch.

Additional off-Broadway credits include As Bees In Honey Drown, Crimes of the Heart and Saved. She also worked in regional theater, where she originated roles in new plays by Neil LaBute, Arthur Miller and Neil Simon. On Broadway she has appeared as Tess in The Sisters Rosensweig, Natasha in the 1997 revival of The Three Sisters, and Peggy in the 2001-2002 revival of The Women.

Ryan has been nominated for the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play twice, in 2000, for her portrayal of Sonya Alexandrovna in Uncle Vanya and in 2005, for her performance as Stella Kowalski oppositeJohn C. Reilly in A Streetcar Named Desire. Ryan currently stars in NBC's hit sitcom 'The Office.'

Tony nominee for Best Featured Actor in a Play, Glengarry Glen Ross star Alan Alda, has previously been on the Broadway stage in QED, Art, Jake's Women, The Apple Tree and The Owl and the Pussycat. His stage work has resulted in 2 previous Tony nominations. On film, the Oscar nominated actor has been seen in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Everyone Says I Love You, Flirting With Disaster, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Same Time, Next Year; California Suite, The Seduction of Joe Tynan, The Four Seasons, Sweet Liberty, A New Life, and Betsy's Wedding. On the small screen he's been seen on The West Wing, ER, as host of Scientific American Frontiers on PBS, and of course on *M*A*S*H, for which he won 5 Emmy Awards. Throughout his career, he's been nominated for a total of 30 Emmys, is a member of the Television Hall of Fame, has won 3 Directors Guild Awards, 6 Golden Globes, 7 People's Choice Awards and has been nominated for two Writers Guild Awards.
