Review: THE INHERITANCE at Round House Theatre
by David Friscic - September 25, 2025
The Inheritance (as in the title of the same award-winning epic play now being presented in a moving and masterly production at Bethesda’s Round House Theatre) is the legacy that must be respected, remembered and passed on from generation to generation so that a record of the tortuous winding road of LGBTQ history can never be forgotten or erased.
Review: THE ADDAMS FAMILY MUSICAL at Capital One Hall
by Hannah R. Wing - September 25, 2025
The Addams Family musical isn’t as campy and charming as the movies, nor does it have the eccentric vibes of Tim Burton’s Wednesday. The musical makes you cringe (and not in the way a member of the Addams family would want you to).

Review: THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR SHOW at Imagination Stage
by Jennifer Muscato - September 23, 2025
What did our critic think of THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR SHOW at Imagination Stage? Four stories from iconic children’s book author Eric Carle, 75 puppets, and even a bubble party – what could go wrong? Spoiler alert: nothing. Everything goes right.
Review: MARK TWAIN TONIGHT! at National Theatre
by Mary Lincer - September 22, 2025
According to an interview Richard Thomas gave to DC Theater Arts, Hal Holbrook's estate asked him to consider playing Mark Twain in the one-man show that Holbrook compiled for himself back in 1954 when he was 29. Their idea was a good one; after a brief stop in DC, this excellent production has moved on to North Carolina.

Review: DREAM HOU$E at NextStop Theatre
by Hannah R. Wing - September 18, 2025
There’s a lot of stress and anxiety around selling a house. Ultimately, it comes down to one question: Will the buyer like it? Reality TV shows on cable channels like HGTV have added on to the pressure. These shows have seeped into potential home buyers’ subconsciousness, causing a phenomenon of HGTV-inspired trends that can make or break a home sale.
Review: EVERYTHING IS WONDERFUL at Keegan Theatre
by David Friscic - September 18, 2025
The title of the devastating and psychologically complex play entitled Everything is Wonderful is considered to be code in the Amish way of life, but it is, concurrently, a bit of an ironic title as well for a play that looks to differing points of view for its appeal (the “English” culture might consider this phrase to be almost ironic).

Review: THE SOUND OF MUSIC at the Kennedy Center
by David Friscic - September 15, 2025
The Sound of Music is a veritable old warhorse of the Broadway musical canon, and it has stood the test of the vicissitudes of time. No amount of changing source material, cynicism, saccharine, or negativity can puncture the universal themes of familial love, romantic love, devotion spirituality, perseverance, forgiveness, and devotion that permeate this beloved musical. These universal themes have resonated with audiences from time immemorial---and are especially pertinent in today’s polarized times.
Review: CRAIGSLISTED at Nu Sass
by Mary Lincer - September 13, 2025
Nu Sass, an excellent part of DC's “off Broadway” since 2009, opens its season in a new space: it's accessible! it's clean! (and its entrance is actually on 11th St., around the corner from its given address, 1100 H St. NW—super close to a Metro Center entrance).
Review: LUZIA at Cirque Du Soliel
by Pamela Roberts - September 13, 2025
Cirque du Soliel’s LUZIA merges powerful artistry and adrenaline-fueled action punctuated with lush music, evocative scenery and a dreamy atmosphere for 125 minutes of pure entertainment. It’s exciting, with an immediacy and connection that only live performance can deliver.
