After months of competition at local and regional levels, and a final performance at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, five acts or "ICONs" will perform and receive scholarships at the ICON 10 Dinner & Talent Showcase Benefit Gala to an audience of nearly 400 people following cocktails, dinner and silent and live auctions.
About ICONWith the ever-increasing budget cuts in the area of the cultural arts within our schools, ICON provides BGCGW members an opportunity to develop and showcase hidden talents. Each year since 2003, with competition beginning at local Clubs, ten acts are selected to perform at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage-where five are selected to perform at the annual ICON Dinner & Talent Showcase Benefit Gala at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C. At each level, every participant is awarded a prize BGCGW inspires and motivates, building confidence and self-esteem in the process. With ICON, all kids are winners!About Women's Leadership Group
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington's Women's Leadership Group (WLG) was established in 1999 with the goal of creating an annual fundraiser to provide significant financial support for our at-risk youth. The WLG continues to grow as a dynamic force of influential women in the greater Washington community, giving generously of their time, talents and resources to help improve the lives of our area youth. To date the group has netted nearly $3.8 million over a period of 10 years! Funds provide critical support to club programs, help establish cultural arts and healthcare initiatives and support our educational initiatives.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) is one of the largest affiliates of Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). BGCGW serves nearly 21,000 children in 18 sites, and a summer camp, all located in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Through a variety of educational, sports, and recreation, health, arts, and character development programs, BGCGW creates a positive environment where children are encouraged to develop their ambitions and turn them into reality. BGCGW helps boys and girls of all backgrounds, especially those who need us most, build confidence, develop character, and acquire skills that prepare them for school and for life as productive, civic-minded, and responsible adults.
