DanceHouse presents the Vancouver premiere of Birdy, a production by Taiwan's acclaimed Hung Dance, on November 28 and 29, 2025. The performance explores themes of freedom and restraint through a unique choreography that blends Tai-chi and contemporary dance, set to an eclectic soundtrack of electronica and Chinese classical music. Utilizing a striking headpiece adorned with long pheasant feathers, the show symbolizes the tension between individuality and conformity, culminating in a powerful call for liberation. Founded by choreographer Lai Hung-Chung, Hung Dance intertwines Taiwan's rich cultural history with innovative dance expressions.
