Cheek by Jowl today announce their plans to offer free livestream viewings of their production of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure to students, via their school, college or higher education institution. Cheek by Jowl's latest Russian-language work of Measure for Measure has been co-produced with Moscow's Pushkin Theatre and in May was filmed at their London base at the Barbican Centre, of which they are Artistic Associates. The stream attracted over 6,000 people worldwide.

Co-Artistic Director of Cheek by Jowl, Declan Donnellan said today, "Measure for Measure is a very modern play. It's of immediate significance to audiences now as it was 400 years ago. We're extremely excited to be able to share both this livestream recording of the play and dedicated education pack with students and sixth forms around the country, especially in those regions where Cheek by Jowl has been unable to visit. Some of our strongest audience base is from students; we want to grow this interest and make seeing a Cheek by Jowl show an option for young people in education across the country, especially when it can support their existing studies in both English and Drama."

The complimentary package consists of the full recorded production accessible via a private link from Cheek by Jowl's YouTube channel. This enables students and teachers to re-watch particular scenes with immediate ease. This livestream recording is supported by an education pack containing cast interviews, context, director's notes and activities - all backed up using the company's digital archive. The pack has been created with the help of leading academics and teaching professionals, all with pupils' needs in mind and can be viewed in hard copy or on computers and tablets - the latter enables links to direct students to particular moments in the action, as well as other educational content.

School groups, academics and teachers are amongst Cheek by Jowl's strongest audience base. At the UK première of Measure for Measure, 93% of students said they would definitely watch another Cheek by Jowl production, and 84% said the production was 'excellent'. Their aim is to grow this interest and make seeing their productions an option for young people in education across the country, to support their existing Theatre and English studies and broaden their contextual knowledge across other subject areas.

For schools interested in receiving the Measure for Measure Education Pack and Livestream Recording, or who would like further information, please get in touch by calling 0207 382 7202.

Note: While the production has been given 16+ guidance rating by UK theatres, teachers can use their discretion and decide whether to show the production in its entirety to students or withhold certain scenes.
