Questa sera, 14 settembre, sono stati consegnati i 78° Emmy Awards e diversi volti noti del teatro sono risultati tra i vincitori di quest'anno.
Jean Smart ha ottenuto il premio come Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series per Hacks, segnando la sua quinta vittoria consecutiva per la serie. Con questa vittoria, Smart è diventata la prima interprete a vincere un Emmy per la recitazione in ogni stagione di una serie televisiva. Smart è stata vista più recentemente a Broadway nella scorsa stagione in Call Me Izzy. La veterana di Broadway Allison Janney si è aggiudicata l'Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series per The Diplomat. Due volte candidata al Tony Award, i crediti teatrali di Janney includono Present Laughter, A View from the Bridge, 9 to 5, Six Degrees of Separation e l'imminente revival del celebre spettacolo Other Desert Cities.
