Set in 2032, cicadas follows a couple who purchase a house in Toronto's Trinity Bellwoods neighbourhood, only to find themselves confronted by mysterious floods, ominous sounds, and hordes of cicadas seeping up through the floorboards. Created by Governor General's Award and Siminovitch Prize laureate David Yee and composer Chris Thornborrow, the production blends live orchestration with theatrical storytelling to craft an eco-thriller that functions as both mystery and warning. Directed by Nina Lee Aquino, the cast features Monica Dottor as Janie, Ryan Hollyman as Trim, and Ellora Patnaik as Adeline. cicadas is a Tarragon Theatre and NAC English Theatre co-production in association with fu-GEN Asian Theatre Company, playing at Tarragon's Mainspace May 5–24, 2026.
