Machinal, Sophie Treadwell's 1928 expressionist masterwork, comes to the Baillie Theatre in a co-production between Soulpepper Theatre Company and Necessary Angel Theatre Company. Directed by Marie Farsi with choreography by Peggy Baker, the play follows Helen Jones, a woman trapped in the grinding machinery of modern life who, from the outside, appears to have a happy marriage — until she murders her husband. Inspired by a real-life 1928 trial, the play is a portrait of rebellion, autonomy, and the fight to claim one's own voice. The production features Evan Buliung, Charlotte Dennis, Daren A. Herbert, Jeff Lillico, Dan Mousseau, and Nancy Palk.
