Today’s subject Carlos Acosta is currently living his theatre Life as the Artistic Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet. He has been in the position since January of 2020. Carlos’ work can be seen at the Kennedy Center in the Opera House from June 4th to the 8th when Birmingham Royal Ballet presents Black Sabbath- The Ballet.

Today’s subject Marika Countouris is currently living her theatre life onstage at Signature Theatre as Musical Director/Keyboardist for Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The show runs through June 22nd in the ARK.

Today’s subject Francesca Zambello is currently living her theatre life as the Artistic Director of Washington National Opera (WNO). She has been in the position since 2012. Her production of Porgy and Bess begins performances this evening in the Opera House at Kennedy Center where it will play through May 31st.

Today’s subject Carolee Carmello is a performer of epic proportions to be sure. Her career has thus far included turns on Broadway, national tours, regional theatres, and on several recordings. Currently she is playing the title role in the national tour of the Tony Award winning musical Kimberly Akimbo. The tour will be at the National Theatre from May 20th through June 1st.

Today’s subject Maestro Steven Reineke is currently living his theatre and music life to the max as the Principal Pops Conductor for YOUR National Symphony Orchestra (NSO.) He has held that position since 2011 after debuting with the symphony the year before. His upcoming appearances with the NSO at Kennedy Center include a symphonic screening of The Wizard of Oz on May 22nd at 8:00 and Dolly Parton’s Threads: My Songs in Symphony on June 26th and 27th at 8:00.

Today’s subject S. Katy Tucker is currently living her theatre life as the projection designer for Washington National Opera’s (WNO) production of The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs. The production runs May 2nd through 10th in the Opera House at Kennedy Center.

Today’s subject Elizabeth Bruce is currently living her theatre life as the co-host and co-creator of the Creativists in Dialogue podcast. A series that covers a variety of topics as they relate to creativity. The series can be heard on Substack and Spotify.

Today’s subject Megan Fairchild has been dancing with New York City Ballet (NYCB) since 2001. She started as an apprentice before joining the company as a member of the corps de ballet. In 2005 she became a principal dancer. NYCB is performing Coppélia week at Kennedy Center in the Opera House and this evening, if you choose to attend as you should, You will see Megan Fairchild perform in the role of Swanilda. If you are unable to attend this evening, the ballet plays through March 30th.

Today’s subject Rayanne Gonzales is currently living her theatre life onstage at Signature Theatre in a role she is very familiar with. Through May 4th in Signature’s MAX space, Rayanne is portraying Abuela Claudia in In The Heights.

Today’s subject Sabrina Lynne Sawyer is currently living her theatre life onstage at Folger Theatre playing Ophelia in the World co-Premiere of A Room in The Castle. The show is a product of the company’s Reading Room Series and runs through April 6th.

Today’s subject Liz Larsen has been living her theatre life for many years turning out stellar performances onstage, on many recordings, and beyond. You can currently see her knockout talents at Arena Stage in the new musical The Bedwetter which runs through March 16th in Arena’s Kreeger Theatre space.

Today’s subject Jordan Slattery is currently living her theatre life onstage at Signature Theatre playing the role of Jane in Job. The production runs through March 16th in Signature’s ARK space.

Longevity is becoming rarer and rarer in the performing arts. Today’s subject Jennifer Tipton has been a lighting designer for theatre, opera, ballet, and more for over 65 years and in the process has given us a body of work that is unparalleled. Her current project American Ballet Theatre’s (ABT’s) production of Crime and Punishment will be playing at Kennedy Center in the Opera House from February 12th through the 16th.

Today’s subject Kaitlyn Jackson is currently living her theatre life on tour playing multiple characters which include Beverley the pilot in the North American Tour of Come From Away. The show will be in our area from January 31st to February 2nd at Capital One Hall.

Today’s subject Barry Edelstein is currently living his theatre life as the Artistic Director of San Diego’s renowned Old Globe. On January 30th he will be giving a special presentation on putting together his adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry VI plays entitled Henry 6. at our very own Folger Theatre as part of their third annual Reding Room Series which runs from January 30th through February 2nd.

Today’s subject Taha Mandviwala is currently living his theatre life on stage at Kennedy Center playing the title character in the North American Tour of Life of Pi. The show runs plays through January 5th in the Eisenhower Theater.

Today’s subject Rachel Simone Webb is currently living her theatre life onstage at the Kennedy Center in the North American Tour of & Juliet playing the role of Juliet. The show runs through January 5th in the Opera House.

I often say that certain things in the theatre are a total mystery to me. Today’s subject Katie Kleiger is currently living her theatre life as Jacqueline de Bellefort in a true mystery of the theatre Agatha Christie’s Death On The Nile. The show runs through December 29th in Arena’s Kreeger Theater space.

Today’s subjects Chris Nee, Michael Kooman, and Christopher Dimond are the creators of a fantastic World Premiere Commission Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) musical at Kennedy Center called Finn. The show runs through December 22nd in the Family Theater. The trio collaborated on the book, music, and lyrics with Michael Kooman providing the dance arrangements and the underscoring.

For many years, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company has had a long standing relationship with Chicago’s legendary comedy troupe The Second City. This holiday season, they are back with Dance Like There’s Black People Watching. The production runs through December 22nd.

As the holiday season gets ready to kick into full force, Ford’s Theatre once again will be presenting their always excellent production of A Christmas Carol. This year’s production runs from November 21st to December 31st.

Today’s subject Christopher Bloch is currently living his theatre life onstage at Signature Theatre playing the role of Senex in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The production runs through January 12th in Signature’s MAX space.
