The People of Pompeii is a darkly funny new comedy by Bernardo Cubría, co-directed by Ellen Geer and Xochitl Romero, set in Topanga Canyon in the smoky aftermath of the Palisades Fire. Weeks after their home is narrowly spared, Carlos and Vera invite friends over for a dinner party that descends into EDM-fueled chaos, honest confrontations, and a cracking of the myth of communal harmony. The play dissects performative progressivism, gentrification, race, class, and the uneasy social dynamics between longtime canyon residents and wealthy newcomers. The cast includes Bernardo Cubría, Lauren Saffa, Willow Geer, Aaron Hendry, Amber Luallen, and Jon Sprik.
