The Ballets Olaeta Association - Olaeta Balleta Elkartea, in conjunction with the Biarritz Oldarra Ballet, present their latest work: MemeM (Mari eme Mitologikoa). Going beyond artificial boundaries, they have succeeded in bringing together two ways of seeing and feeling our country (Iparralde-Hegoalde), merging them into a work in which each working philosophy is maintained and using their different ballet styles as a base, they have been embraced into our folklore.
Jon Maia, author of the original idea for this stage production, says: “This show travels through Basque mythology, focusing essentially on the woman. In this particular game between myth and the human being, it looks at women. Fairies, lamias, the witches´ Sabbath, the inquisition… “Mari emakume Mitológikoa” portrays a woman´s efforts to regain her own identity and her ability to survive throughout the centuries. Myths and mythology have given the human being elements in order to understand, interpret and project reality”.
