Happy Birthday, Reneé Elise Goldsberry! Goldsberry played Nala in the Broadway production of The Lion King and was nominated for a Drama League Award for 'Distinguished Performance' and won a New York magazine Best of 2005 Award for her performance as Silvia in the 2005 New York City Shakespeare in the Park revival of Two Gentlemen of Verona. She later originated the role of Nettie in The Color Purple, the Broadway musical adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1982 novel of the same name from November 2005 to mid-January 2006. On June 16, 2008, Goldsberry was the last actress to play the role of Mimi Marquez in the Broadway musical Rent.

Tony Award winning performer Idina Menzel, best known for her roles in Wicked, Rent and Glee, has just added a new date to her tour and will be performing in concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London on October 6, Baz Bamigboye has just reported in the UK Daily Mail. Ticket sales officially launch Saturday, June 18. This engagement preceeds a new US tour the songstress is launching in Philadelphia in November, as BroadwayWorld previously reported. Menzel will be touring the country in concert with local symphonies.

Royal Underground/Jerica Productions spearheaded by brother and sister duo Jerianne and Enrico Banson, who mounted the Regional Premiere of RENT in San Francisco, has taken the musical to Los Angeles for the first time. Many RENT fans have credited their rendition as the best regional version paying homage to the iconic original Broadway production while finding new creative staging. So much so, that their production has earn nominations for BroadwayWorld.com's San Francisco Fan Choice Theatre Awards for 2010, earning a Best Leading Actor nomination for Enrico Banson as Roger, and Adrienne Fraser for Best Scenic Design. Both are back for the Hollywood production and coincidentally enough, Jason Aaronson who will play Mark opposite Enrico Banson's Roger is also nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance of the West Coast Premiere of Glory Days.
