After a fully cancelled 2020 season and an out-door-under-a-tent 2021 season, the main stages at the Stratford Festival have finally seen some action this year. Over at the Festival Theatre, the Donna Feore choreographed and directed production of CHICAGO is a huge hit! Two major reasons for this are the phenomenal performances by the two leads. BWW had the opportunity to chat with Roxie and Velma themselves - Chelsea Preston and Jennifer Rider-Shaw, to find out what it has been like to finally do the show they had been waiting two years to mount.

For 20 years, the Peenemünde Concerts, a series within the framework of the Usedom Music Festival, have stood for peace and international understanding. In its anniversary year, on the occasion of which the world-famous New York Philharmonic will be making a guest appearance with a European residency on the island of Usedom from 20 to 24 May.

Michael Harrison for Crossroads Pantomimes is delighted to announce the world-famous TILLER GIRLS will join Donny Osmond, Julian Clary, Paul Zerdin, Nigel Havers, Gary Wilmot, Jac Yarrow and Sophie Isaacs in Pantoland at The Palladium which will open on 4 December 2021 and run until 9 January 2022 for a strictly limited five week run. 

Tonight, in their debut show at Don’t Tell Mama, Quentin Harris and Bryce Edwards added their own names to the list of performing teams who use opposition to their advantage. They bill themselves simply as MR. HARRIS AND MR. EDWARDS. If this sounds like a throwback to vaudeville days, it’s not entirely an accident. Harris and Edwards owe much to those old-time show business acts and most of their musical material is drawn from the Great American Songbook and from jazz standards. Quentin Harris knows a great deal about jazz and plays piano in the style of Oscar Peterson and many of the other jazz greats. Bryce Harris is a charmingly off-kilter one-man band, who plays ukulele, banjo, and the world’s most cumbersome looking kazoo. His style is bombastic and more than a little Jolson-esque. Both men are young, still in school, in fact, and so their show is a little rough around the edges as they find their footing. But they have the bones of a really interesting and unique act.

By the close of World War I, four empires had collapsed, including both the Russian and the Austro-Hungarian Empires. Empires at War: Austria and Russia examines the conflict on the Eastern Front, an aspect of the war often less surveyed but with cataclysmic results for the millions affected.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center has announced their Spring season of digital offerings from April 1 to July 1, which is dedicated to the late Gustave M. Hauser.  CMS presents 28 digital programs, with concerts premiering on Thursday evenings at 7:30 and educational and hybrid talk-and-performance programs premiering on Monday evenings.

The Everyman has announced the upcoming release of Made in Cork | Play It By Ear: a selection of rehearsed readings from its successful audio broadcast programme, all with a very Cork flavour, which will be made available for the month of March.

Juliet Stevenson leads an all-star female cast in this streamed production of  Steven Carl McCasland’s dinner party drama, Little Wars.  Joining Stevenson are Linda Bassett Debbie Chazen, Natasha Karp, Catherine Russell, Sarah Solemani and Olivier-recipient Sophie Thompson.

After a forty-year absence, and to celebrate one hundred years since the birth of Guido Cantelli - the great conductor from Novara - the Conducting Competition that was created in his memory comes to life again and takes on a strong international connotation while focusing on the younger generations. The competition has its natural home in the Teatro Coccia of Novara in Italy. Registrations for the Competition will open from 1 March to 30 April 2020: conductors of all nationalities, between the age of 18 and 35 will be eligible to participate. Candidates will undergo a preselection based on their CVs and video recordings. From 9 to 12 September the finalists will fulfill the competition's assignments from the podium of the Orchestra del Teatro Regio in Turin and will be examined by a jury made of internationally renowned artists and cultural personalities. The second and last round of the finals will take place in Novara on 13 September. 

New South Wales' largest independent arts festival, Sydney Fringe Festival, today unveiled its most ambitious program. The 10th birthday celebration will include a takeover of The Rocks, City Tattersalls and surrounds, bringing life back to the CBD and stretch into the inner west and greater Sydney across 21 postcodes.

WALTER ARLEN'S FIRST CENTURY, a documentary by Vienna-based filmmaker Stephanus Domanig, paints an affectionate and multifaceted picture of a musician exiled in 1938, who only got to see his works performed late in life.
