Manoa Valley Theatre Thrills with WAIT UNTIL DARK

Manoa Valley Theatre will captivate audiences with the mystery thriller from Frederick Knott, from the 1966 and 1998 Broadway seasons. It's the story of a sinister con man and two ex-convicts who are about to meet their match when they deploy a cleverly constructed deception on a blind woman whom they think unknowingly possesses a doll of particular interest to them. Seemingly disadvantaged, it is only when darkness falls and she turns off all the lights leaving the perpetrators to maneuver in the dark that the real cat-and-mouse game ramps up. You'll be on the edge of your seat as this thriller masterfully moves from one moment of suspense to another and builds toward an electrifying, breath-stopping final scene. (more...)

Artists Rep & Isinglass Partner to Host Summer Theatre Leadership Academy for High School Students

Artists Repertory Theatre is partnering with local arts advocacy non-profit Isinglass to offer Egg, the organization's three year-old summer theatre leadership academy. Egg is an intensive seven-week program that teaches high school students the art and business of producing their own theatrical production. This summer 2017 program concludes with a week-long planning session for students to develop theatre and arts advocacy projects which they implement in their own schools during the following school year. Regional Premiere of TUCK EVERLASTING Among Hale Centre's 2018 Season

Hale Centre Theatre, Utah's professional family theater, officially unveiled its 2018 entertainment season that will mark the first full year in the new 130,000 square-foot Mountain America Performing Arts Centre in Sandy City. The 2018 season, sponsored by Mountain America, will feature eight productions on the season ticket and two special engagement productions. They will run non-stop on the theater's proscenium thrust, Jewel Box Stage, and the larger, one-of-a-kind Centre Stage, built by international stage design company Tait Stage Technology. (more...)

Second Thought Theatre Opens Area Premiere of STRAIGHT WHITE MEN

Second Thought Theatre continues its 2017 season of change with the area premiere of Straight White Men by Young Jean Lee. Local director/actor Christie Vela returns to direct for the company after making her acting debut for Second Thought last summer in A Kid Like Jake. The iconic 1940 film by Charles Lederer, starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, is hitting the Toronto stage in a new adaptation by Craig Dix. This classic screwball comedy tells the tale of Walter Burns (Sean Jacklin), a hard-boiled newspaper editor who learns that his ex-wife, 'newspaper man' Hildy Johnson (Cass Van Wyck), is going to give-up reporting to marry a bland insurance salesman (Steve Hobbs) from Albany. Determined to sabotage these plans and keep Hildy with the paper - and himself - Burns convinces her to cover one last story. Things quickly spiral out of control and Burns and Hildy find themselves tangled up in the case, and each other's lives. A hilarious look at identity, and the struggle to balance life and love. BWW Interview: Producer/Director Bruce Kimmel Talks About Directing DIAL M FOR MURDER

Bruce Kimmel wrote, directed and starred in the cult movie hit, "The First Nudie Musical."  He also co-created the story for the hit film, "The Faculty," directed by Robert Rodriguez.  As an actor, Mr. Kimmel guest-starred on most of the long-running television shows of the 1970s.    Mr. Kimmel is a legendary Grammy-nominated producer of theatre music on CD, having produced over 180 albums. Most recently he has directed the shows L.A. Now and Then, Hit Song, The Musical, Welcome to My World, Li'l Abner, and Inside Out.  Mr. Kimmel is the author of seventeen books, many musicals, and is an award-winning songwriter. Bruce Kimmel serves as director on the Group Rep's upcoming production of Frederick Knott's mystery thriller Dial "M" for Murder which opens on the Main Stage, June 30th, at the Lonny Chapman Theatre in North Hollywood at the edge of the NoHo Arts District.  Written by Steve Peterson (more...)

Singin' All Night tells the story of an autistic African American teenager who has been accused of a horrific crime. Two young attorneys are broke, desperate and take his impossible case. But everything changes when they realize he can communicate through music. Join us for the WORLD PREMIERE reading/ workshop presentation of Singin' All Night written by Artistic Director Kirk Gostkowski. New Adaptation of GREAT EXPECTATIONS Heads to Everyman Theatre's Stage

Everyman Theatre brings Charles Dickens' classic novel to the stage in a dynamic adaptation by Gale Childs Daly. Hailed as "tight and suspenseful" by the Chicago Tribune, Daly's adaptation of Great Expectations masterfully condenses Dickens 500-page novel into a high-spirited play where only six actors portray more than 35 characters.
