The play opens with Marisol barely escaping a vicious attack on her subway trip back to the Bronx. Later that evening, Marisol's guardian angel pays a visit to tell her she can no longer serve as Marisol's protector because she has been called to join the revolution already in progress against an old and senile God who is dying and 'taking the rest of the universe with him.' The angel warns Marisol that she will face many threats over the coming days and advises her to be prepared to defend herself. Soon, Marisol is caught up in the Armageddon being fought on The Streets of New York City. (more...)

BWW Review: CAGNEY Erupts Joyously at the El Portal
by Don Grigware - Oct 10, 2017

It's quite rare and a sheer delight when an original bio hits the mark bigtime onstage. There have been many shows over the years about iconic stars like Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Charlie Chaplin, John Barrymore among others. but only Barrymore stands apart as memorable. CAGNEY currently playing the El Portal through October 29 goes a giant step beyond; not only is it a genuinely intelligent biography, but also has great drama, romance and musical entertainment for one and all. Opening off-Broadway in 2016, the show was nominated for several Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards, and witnessing the terrifically dynamic ensemble of six actors headed by Robert Creighton as James Cagney, it's easy to see why. Creighton not only looks like Cagney, but possesses a similar Irish personality and tough yet tender charm that made the original talent such an icon. The other five actors surrounding him Danette Holden, Josh Walden, Jeremy Benton, Ellen Z. Wright and Bruce Sabath are triple threat performers who brilliantly play a myriad of characters each. OKC Broadway Brings 20th Anniversary Tour of RENT to the Civic Center
by Robert Barossi - Nov 8, 2017

Major Broadway musicals are bound to have many different incarnations over time, from early workshops to original runs to revivals and regional productions. Shows that stand the test of time, the way that Rent does, appear on the stage in touring productions, long, open-ended runs, and international productions all over the world. The current tour that's travelling the country, heralded as the 20th Anniversary Tour and currently running at the Civic Center in Oklahoma City, is a mostly disappointing production that doesn't really do the show as a whole the justice it deserves. BWW Review: Village's NEWSIES Brings Intimacy to the Big Splashy Musical
by Jay Irwin - Nov 10, 2017

Dear Readers, I won't bore you with the rehash of how I feel about the stage adaptation of Disney's Newsies from my disappointment of the restructuring of the story and songs from the movie, to the required suspension of disbelief that any of these dancers are young newsBOYS, to the fact that Jack and Katherine's relationship is just a little creepy if you think about what their ages should be. If you want that you can read my previous review of the touring show. Instead what we will and should be talking about is how the current production at Village theater not only matched the fun, talent and power that existed in the big, splashy Broadway tour but in some ways surpassed it.
