ZACH Theatre kicks off 2019 with two show openings, one show closing, and a new "Pay-What-You-Will" program for all Mainstage productions. Hedwig returns to Texas in the Austin debut of the 2014 Tony Award-winning incarnation of John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask's Hedwig and the Angry Inch playing The Topfer at ZACH running January 23-March 3, 2019 with a new "Pay-What-You-Will" program to begin with this production. In collaboration with University of Texas at Austin's Drama and Theatre for Youth and Communities (DTYC) MFA Program, This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing will now join the season lineup running January 13, 19, 20, and 26, 2019 in The Whisenhunt at ZACH, performed and devised by the ensemble. Allen Robertson's smash-hit musical for all ages, Tortoise and Hare will close in The Kleberg at ZACH on January 27.

Lythgoe Family Panto (LFP), in association with the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, announce final casting for their newest production, the world premiere of THE WONDERFUL WINTER OF OZ at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, (300 East Green Street, Pasadena CA 91101) which will play a strictly limited engagement from December 15 through December 30.

Inspired by true events, Hollywood Girl: The Peg Entwistle Story depicts the tragic ending of Peg Entwistle's life. An aspiring film actress and Broadway muse, Entwistle is mostly known for her infamous and fatal jump off the Hollywood(land) sign in 1932.

Dear Readers, today I want to talk to you about one of the most exciting companies in town and their latest show, The Williams Project's 'A Bright Room Called Day' by Tony Kushner. Specifically, I want to focus on three aspects of why they and their current show are so exciting and by the end I expect one if not all three aspects will entice you to catch this one, or at least I hope so.

ZACH Theatre brings three great seasonal shows for everyone to share this 2018 Holiday Season. ZACH's rockin' holiday tradition, A Christmas Carol will return to The Topfer at ZACH for the fifth year November 21-December 30 with exciting new songs and new cast in addition to returning favorites. David Sedaris' ever-irreverent and giddily-cynical Macy's elf Crumpet is back with a new Crumpet, running on The Whisenhunt December 5-December 30. ZACH Theatre's Moody Theatre for Families Series brings back Holiday Heroes this season due to popular demand for two shows, December 8 and 15.

The University of Saint Joseph's (USJ) Autorino Center for the Arts is introducing its Pay-It-Forward campaign, a donation-based initiative to bring arts and culture events to wider audiences by hosting free performances on select dates. The Pay-It-Forward performances for the current 2018-2019 USJ Got Soul season are WET: A DACAmented Journey, FREQUENCY, and Al-Qalb - The Heart.

On October 27 and 31, LA Opera presents a special Halloween treat for cinephiles and opera lovers alike: a screening of Carl Theodor Dreyer's suspenseful and surreal 1932 cinematic masterpiece Vampyr, featuring the world premiere of a new musical score by Joby Talbot performed live at the spectacular Theatre at Ace Hotel.

Alex Alpharaoh's one-man performance of WET: A DACAmented Journey premieres at the University of Saint Joseph on Friday, Oct. 26, 2018 and Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hoffman Auditorium, Bruyette Athenaeum.

As Labor Day quickly approaches, it's time to take a look at all of the upcoming shows hitting Broadway between now and the the end of the year. With thirteen new shows opening between now and then, this season has something for everyone!

Built in 1913 as the flagship for the big time vaudeville circuit run by E.F. Albee and Martin Beck, manager of the Western Vaudeville Managers Association, the Palace was the perfect showplace for the biggest of big time vaudeville during the last two decades of its existence.

ZACH Theatre announces an exciting new season add-on and schedule change for the 2018-19 Season. Back by popular vote, Texas' brassy blue Governor Ann Richards will return to the stage next summer with the hit play, ANN running on The Topfer July 31-September 8, 2019 under the direction of original Broadway Director Benjamin Endsley Klein. With the summer stage appearance of the saucy Ann Richards, that loveable East Berlin gender bending rocker Hedwig will now kick off the new year moving Hedwig and the Angry Inch to January, running January 23-March 3, 2019 in The Topfer under the direction of Kevin Cahoon.

For the past several summers, I have attended the Festival of Arts and The Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. But this year, I also decided to also visit two other art festivals along Laguna Canyon Road rather than spend any time cruising the town as I had done before. The full-day of exploring all the artistic delights on display this year at all three locations left me dazzled by all the talent on display, while wishing I had lot of extra income to purchase and bring home many of the awe-inspiring items that caught my fancy. But the real highlight of the day was viewing the abundance of 'local color' on display in this summer's 'Under the Sun' themed Pageant of the Masters.

Goodman Theatre announces a line-up of free staged readings written by members of its Playwrights Unit-a year-long residency for Chicago-based writers to develop their plays-in-progress with the Goodman's artistic team, in partnership with Chicago Dramatists. Members of the 2017/2018 Playwrights Unit include Sam Collier, Ricardo Gamboa, Isaac Gomez, Kristin Idaszak and Nigel O'Hearn. Goodman Theatre announces a line-up of free staged readings written by members of its Playwrights Unit-a year-long residency for Chicago-based writers to develop their plays-in-progress with the Goodman's artistic team, in partnership with Chicago Dramatists.

On June 25, The Resident Acting Company (www.racnyc.org), a new troupe drawn from the performing ensemble of The Pearl Theatre Company, will present a staged reading of 'The Big Night' (1928) by humorist Dawn Powell, a harsh, biting comedy about a woman whose husband has been fired from an advertising agency.  The play was the author's masterpiece but failed on Broadway in a production of The Group Theatre. The version to be offered is a restoration by Michael Sexton from the author's original notes and drafts.  It retains some of the Group Theatre's 'improvements' but includes the author's original ending.  The reading will be at 7:00 PM at The Players Club, 16 Gramercy Park South, directed by Bradford Cover, Artistic Director of the troupe.

Queensbury Theatre is proud to announce the 2018/19 Mainstage Season at CityCentre. As Houston's only professional theatre outside of the loop, Queensbury Theatre is marking a new chapter with the 2018/19 Mainstage Season featuring a world premiere and a show-stopping holiday favorite.

Folks Operetta's 2018 season kicks off with Emmerich Kalman's operetta The Csardas Princess, July 7 - 22, playing at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. The Csardas Princess features the book written by Leo Stein and Bela Jenbach with music by Emmerich Kalman and an English translation by Hersh Glagov and Gerald Frantzen. The Folks Operetta version is directed by Gerald Frantzen and conducted by Mark Taylor. Opening night is Saturday, July 7 at 7:30 p.m. The regular performance schedule is Thursdays - Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $40 for adults, $35 for seniors (65 years and older) and $25 for students (with student ID).
