The legendary music group, Earth, Wind & Fire will perform at Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall at FSW on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 7:30pm. 

As the pandemic nears its much overdue endemic end, artists are coming out of the woodwork to sum up the past 24 months with their personal stories of survival and thriving. Last September, Tony award winner Cady Huffman and respected jazz bassist Mary Ann McSweeney presented such an evening at Birdland. With only the two of themselves, they put together an eclectic evening of jazz-flavored tunes with Ms. McSweeney on bass and Ms. Huffman on vocals entitled IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR: SONGS INSPIRED BY A PANDEMIC. This coming Tuesday, February 22, Huffman and McSweeney will present a new and improved version of the show at The Green Room 42, with a few surprises for those who caught the show before.

Cannery Casino Hotel will host its annual Cannerystock Music Fest, featuring iconic '80s hits at The Club on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4. April entertainment at Cannery will also feature performances by Yellow Brick Road, “Queen Nation – Tribute to Queen” and The Whispers with Evelyn “Champagne” King. At Birdland Jazz Club, catch the iconic Lionel Hampton Big Band Featuring Jason Marsalis, current GRAMMY nominee Catherine Russell, the Birdland debut of AGUAS Trio with Omar Sosa, Yilian Cañizares and Gustavo Ovalles, and iconic vocalist Jane Monheit. Internationally recognized trumpeter Rachel Therrien, the Seth Weaver Big Band, and The Voice contestant Melinda Rose Rodriguez will also be performing upstairs. 

Trinity Rep continues its 2019-20 Season with the final play from American theatrical legend August Wilson - Radio Golf. Directed by resident acting company member Jude Sandy, the show features resident acting company member Joe Wilson, Jr., as Harmond Wilks, a man determined to revive his childhood neighborhood without considering the emotional cost. Both moving and funny, Radio Golf is the culmination of August Wilson's ten-play American Century Cycle chronicling each decade of African-American life in the twentieth century. An unapologetic story of identity, racism, love, and belonging, Do You Dream in Spanish? weaves the songs of Frank Loesser, Steven Lutvak, and George Gershwin, with original music by Araujo and Michael Perrie, Jr. The show also uses Araujo's original photography.

The continued proliferation of rhythmless music plunges Fall For Dance 2019's Program 1 into a miasma of middling potpourri. From Kyle Abraham rendering Misty Copeland into a sterile robot to Crystal Pite's droning narration, this was an evening sorely in need of inventive rhythm and grooves. Thank goodness then for the visiting South Africans of Vuyani Dance Theatre.

A sellout crowd at the baby grand on September 22 welcomed not only musical legends but also historians, DJ's and promoters who have had and continue to have a profound influence on the music scene.

Remastered and available on vinyl for the first time, Ali Farka Touré's Savane and Omara Portuondo's Buena Vista Social Club Presents are on LP and digital formats today, followed by Radio Tarifa's Rumba Argelina and Guillermo Portabales' El Carretero, which are due on CD, LP and digital formats on October 4.
