THE AGE OF INNOCENCE at McCarter Theatre feels like a respite from a shameless world. Dripping with elegance and elevated decorum of New York society circa 1870, the play, however, is anything but remote. It seems to speak to the quieter reality most of us still remember-the one waiting for permission to matter once again. Not one of elite social circles, but of contemplation and self-knowledge, even when they hurt.

The Wellin Museum of Art at Hamilton College will present Jeffrey Gibson: This Is the Day from September 8 through December 9, 2018, featuring over 50 works of sculpture, painting, installation, and video made between 2014 and 2018, a number of which were made expressly for this exhibition. As part of the exhibition, the Wellin will debut a new film that the Museum commissioned from Gibson. Other new works in the exhibition include a group of five elaborately adorned helmets that will be presented to the public for the first time at the Wellin, alongside a series of seven large-scale sculptural garments, draped on tipi poles, which will hang from the gallery ceiling. The exhibition is curated by Tracy L. Adler, Johnson-Pote Director of the Wellin Museum of Art, and will travel to the Blanton Museum of Art at The University of Texas at Austin in 2019, facilitated by Veronica Roberts, the Blanton's Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art.

Detroit-based artist Flint Eastwood (Jax Anderson) is celebrating Pride with her new track “Real Love.” Flint Eastwood hit the stage at Fireflylast weekend, will open for GRiZ at Red Rocks next month, and is heading out on a solo US tour this fall. “Real Love” marks Jax's first release directly addressing the LGBTQ+ community, her personal orientation and identity.

Pianist Stephen Hough's Dream Album, which casts him in the role of performer, composer, and transcriber, is released by Hyperion Records on Friday, June 1. This recording is the seventh in a series of “Album” releases from Mr. Hough that began with The Piano Album in 1993 and continued most recently with the French Album in 2012. Like all of his Albums, Mr. Hough's Dream Album juxtaposes works by different composers, in this case 27 short pieces—mostly less than five minutes apiece—by over a dozen composers, including Liszt, Dvo?ák, and Sibelius. As if from a dream, this collection is a free association of musical thoughts that bear personal meaning for Mr. Hough—from favorite encores, to pieces from his childhood, to works written for friends. Passion, scandal, love (both requited and unrequited), and regret are emotions fraught with pain and joy. They are also timeless experiences - as relatable today as they were a hundred years ago. Such is the case with Edith Wharton's THE AGE OF INNOCENCE which has been adapted for the stage by Douglas McGrath and is the latest production from Hartford Stage (in association with the McCarter Theatre Center.) The play, based on Ms. Wharton's Pulitzer Prize winning novel, provides a lavish setting for the tale of one man torn between propriety and passion, and the fixed and proper world of New York society at the end of the 19th century.

The National Trust has announced that almost 1,000 events have been registered for the 2018 Australian Heritage Festival.  The nation-wide Festival is the largest and longest-running grassroots festival celebrating Australia's historic, natural, indigenous and multicultural heritage. Now in its 38th year, the Australian Heritage Festival invites Australians to engage with their culture and heritage through a dynamic program presented across all States and Territories from 18 April to 20 May, 2018. The classic 1870 Jules Verne novel, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, has inspired a new adaptation by local Outcry Theatre founders, Jason and Becca Johnson-Spinos. The duo, who will also be directing its premiere with a youth cast, have created a brand new adaptation that reimagines the brilliant and strong-minded Professor Aronnax, the protagonist of the story, as a female character.     Aronnax joins an expedition to capture and kill a sea monster terrorizing the seas. She soon learns that the creature is actually an ingenious underwater vessel, the Nautilus, built and captained by the mysterious Captain Nemo. What Aronnax experiences on the Nautilus will open her eyes to a world she could hardly have imagined.

A mysterious, erotic and funny drama featuring just two people is Melville Theatre's first offering for 2018. Written by US playwright, screenwriter and novelist David Ives and directed by Trevor Dhu, Venus in Fur was first staged in 2010 and nominated for numerous Tony Awards before Roman Polanski shot a French film version in late 2012.

Music Director Designate Jaap van Zweden will conduct the New York Philharmonic in a program pairing the New York Premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner John Luther Adams's Dark Waves with Act I of Wagner's Die Walk re (in concert), with soprano Heidi Melton as Sieglinde, tenor Simon O'Neill as Siegmund (in his New York Philharmonic debut), and bass John Relyea as Hunding.

Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) announced today that their production of A Christmas Carol, the third show of their 2017-18 Season, has become the best-selling show in the theatre's history. Shakespeare & Company has announced its Shakespeare lineup for the 2018 summer season.
