Writers Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, announces a one-week extension to Company, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth. The production is directed by William Brown. Company features original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, Orchestral Reductions by Ian Weinberger, music direction by Tom Vendafreddo and choreography by Brock Clawson. The show, originally slated to run through July 31, 2016, will add an additional week, through August 7, in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe.

When Distiller Allisa Henley first discovered George Dickel Tennessee Whisky's newest 17-Year Old addition to the portfolio, she wasn't really even looking for it. At the time, she was searching George Dickel's single story barrel warehouses for 9-Year Old whisky to use in the Hand Selected Barrel Program she'd launched in 2014. However, after pulling a sample from a row of 17-Year Old barrels near the back of one of the warehouses, she knew it was too good not to share as the extra time in the barrel had resulted in a perfectly balanced, flavorful sipping whisky.

Translator Barnett Zumoff was inspired to create and publish his 3-volume English translation of 'Yiddish Literature in America 1870-2000-Volume 1' (published by Xlibris) when he read the original Yiddish work compiled by Emanuel Goldsmith, which he considered a landmark in the history of Yiddish culture - a once- in-a-lifetime publication. He felt it was essential to make this material available to readers who cannot read and understand Yiddish and the result is the present volume of translation.

Miranda N. Prather, author of 'Blue Blue Sea Finds His Cape,' attended a book signing at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 20, 2016. The signing was a huge success with numerous sales and interest in the true life story of a super hero ex-race horse. The day featured top level thoroughbred racing that saw Go Maggie Go victorious in the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes and Maryland favorite and warrior horse, Ben's Cat winning his 5th Jim McKay Turf Sprint at age 10. Also in attendance were Mid-Atlantic Horse Rescue and Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance which offer options for Thoroughbreds when their racing days are over. During her time in Kentucky, she took horseback riding lessons and owned an off-track Thoroughbred named Beble. Hayley Mullins resides in Erlanger, Kentucky, where she is a high school senior at Heritage Academy. She is a self-taught artist, who is gaining a following due to her natural talent for catching a subject in whimsical ways. Upon graduation, the illustrator plans to attend Lipscomb University and study Visual Development and Animation. Opening in 1870, Pimlico Race Course is the second oldest track in the United States. The track has long been home to some of the finest Thoroughbred racing seen in the world and is home to the second jewel of racing's Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes. Alfred G. Vanderbilt once said of the storied track, 'Pimlico is more than a dirt track bounded by four streets. It is an accepted American institution, devoted to the best interests of a great sport, graced by time, respected for its honorable past.' This summer marks another historic milestone for the annual Bard SummerScape festival. For the first time since its founding, this season's focus is on the music and culture of Italy, with seven weeks of music, opera,theater, dance, film, and cabaret keyed to the theme of the 27th Bard Music Festival, "Puccini and His World." This intensive examination of the life and times of Giacomo Puccini opens a window onto Italy's rich musical heritage from Palestrina to Menotti, by way of the most popular and successful - yet, paradoxically, frequently critically underrated - opera composer of all time. Complementing the music festival, some of the Tuscan master's most compelling compatriots provide other key SummerScape highlights. These include a rare, fully staged production of Iris, a forerunner of Madama Butterfly by Puccini's close contemporary Pietro Mascagni; the world premiere of Demolishing Everything with Amazing Speed, four newly unearthed puppet plays from leading Italian Futurist Fortunato Depero, as reimagined by Dan Hurlin;the world premiere of Fantasque, a new ballet set to the music of Respighi and Rossini by John Heginbotham and Amy Trompetter; a film series on "Puccini and the Operatic Impulse in Cinema"; and the return of Bard's authentic and sensationally popularSpiegeltent,hosted by the inimitable Mx. Metropolitan Playhouse, Obie Award winner for exploring American culture through theater, hosts The TranscendentalFest, the theater's tenth Living Literature Festival inspired by the lives and works of American writers. Performances take place daily from January 11 to 24, 2016 at the Metropolitan Playhouse. The opening reception will be held January 11 at 9:00 pm.

Using historical testimony, 'Wretched Little Brat' by Brian Merriman reveals the characters behind a story that scandalised a sexually hypocritical Victorian nation and went on to adversely influence law, morality and the fight for LGBT equality to this day. This frank exploration challenges the 'gay stereotypes' embedded by Wilde's public scandals as having serious consequences for the generations of LGBT people who pursued equality in the decades that followed. Running for one week only in the Sean O'Casey Theatre, St Mary's Road, East Wall, Dublin 3, this new full length play reveals the passion and politics artfully manipulated by a 'wretched little brat'.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center in Lincoln Center will present the free multimedia exhibition Alice Live! The exhibition will trace the history of Lewis Carroll's beloved Alice stories in live performance from their first professional staging through today. Alice Live! will be on display from October 2, 2015 through January 16, 2016 in The Library for the Performing Arts's Donald and Mary Oenslager Gallery, Shelby Cullom Davis Museum. 

6 Degrees of Ned Kelly: A journey into Australian tall-tale-telling at its finest, starring Melita Rowston plays at The Sydney Fringe at The Erko Town Hall from 2 - 6 Sept.

     On Thursday, August 20 at 4:00 p.m., the Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company presents "The Leach Diaries: The First Three Years" as part of its "Tales of the Victorians" series. The play is adapted from actual diaries kept by Cape May-born and raised Frank Leach, from 1870 to 1873, adapted by ELTC's artistic director, Gayle Stahlhuth. The location is The Leach House, 1011 Lafayette, one of the homes in which Frank Leach actually lived.  

Visitors to the 52nd annual Marshall Historic Home Tour Sept. 12-13 can view the Whelan's latest challenge, Marshall's octagon house originally built 1856, which is being presented on the home tour as under restoration. Octagon houses were a mid-1800s housing fad and were promoted as providing a healthier and more efficient lifestyle. Only about 500 survive nationally.
