Writers Theatre will conclude its 2021/22 Season with Pearl’s Rollin’ with the Blues: A Night with Felicia P. Fields.  The production runs June 23, 2022 – July 24, 2022 in the in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe. The Press Opening is Friday, July 1, 2022 at 7:30pm.

Performances begin tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1 for the Broadway musical Sister Act at Paper Mill Playhouse. Sister Act features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, book by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, and additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.

The Board of Directors has announced that after seven successful years with the organization, Laura Nanni will end her appointment as Artistic and Managing Director of SummerWorks in April 2023. Since starting in 2016, Laura has been a driving force for change within the organization, and the artistic community as a whole, using her strategic vision to spearhead SummerWorks through a period of positivity and re-imagining.

Critically-acclaimed, multi-dimensional artist Sky Ferreira makes a stunning return with “Don’t Forget” – her first new single since 2019’s “Downhill Lullaby.” Ferreira produced “Don’t Forget” with longtime collaborator Jorge Elbrecht (Ariel Pink) at Capitol’s historic Studio B in Hollywood, CA. Second Stage Theater has announced casting for the upcoming world premiere production of 53% OF. The production will feature ANNA CRIVELLI, EDEN MALYN, MARIANNA McCLELLAN, GRACE REX, CATHRYN WAKE, and AYANA WORKMAN.

Brooklyn artist and songwriter BAYLI today unveils her new single ‘TELLY BAG’ via her own self-titled label. Produced by Jonathan Santana, ‘TELLY BAG’ is an avantpop-meets-UK-DnB, genre-blending ode to BAYLI’s love for Telfar, fashion and her queer identity. Directed by Alex Gayoso, the stylistic accompanying video sees BAYLI and a cast of queer creators from her community come together in a celebration of their individuality and personal style. 

Bill Castellino directs and choreographs. Cast members include Almeria Campbell, Victoria Casillo, Daniela Delahuerta, Matthew Liu, Jesse Manocherian, Sarah Nandola, Pearl Rhein, Noah Ruebeck, Hansel Tan, and Miles Whittaker. Twenty-five performances will be staged from April 23 – May 22, 2022, at Nancy Manocherian's the cell theatre, 338 West 23rd Street, New York, NY 11201.

THE DJANGO will bring another month of stellar jazz by some of the field’s heroes alongside young, emerging artists.

Today, The Bentonville Film Festival unveiled their distinguished Competition Jury, singularly dedicated to inclusive representation in media and entertainment. The festival, produced by the BFFoundation and chaired by Academy Award-winning Actor Geena Davis, will take place in-person June 22-26 and virtually June 22-July 3. The illustrious group of jurors is composed of award-winning producers, directors, actors and authors, including actor Yolonda Ross, film and television producer Bird Runningwater, actor Shohreh Aghdashloo, writer and filmmaker Justine Bateman, among others. The 28th Annual San Luis Obispo International Film Festival (April 26-May 1) announced that Dale Dickey (A Love Song) will receive the King Vidor Award at next week’s film festival and Michael Showalter (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) will be this year’s Spotlight Award honoree. Stacy Peralta’s The Yin and Yang of Gerry Lopez was also announced as the featured film for this year’s Surf Nite at the Drive-in.

With performances beginning April 23rd, Nancy Manocherian’s the cell theatre and Nightclub Cantata LLC, by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals, will present  Elizabeth Swados’ 1977 breakout sensation Nightclub Cantata, a provocative, eclectic and heralded theatrical creation rarely seen since its inception decades ago.

Ryan McCartan is known for playing Jason 'J.D. Dean' in the original off-broadway production of Heathers. Brad Majors in the 2016 Fox musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Ryan also played Diggie Smalls in Disney Channel's sitcom Live and Maddie. Fiyero in Wicked, and most recently Hans in Frozen.

'Aunt Susan and Her Tennessee Waltz' by Toby Armour will be presented by Theater for the New City (TNC) April 28 to May 15.  The play dramatizes the leadership of Susan B. Anthony, Carrie Chapman Catt and Juno Frankie Pearce in the struggle to win the women's right to vote.

Lola Kirke has released an 80’s-reminiscent music video for “Pink Sky” the third single off her upcoming album Lady for Sale. The video, shot entirely on film and directed by Hailey Gates features Kirke in a pink frock with hair curlers atop her head, the mod makeup and grainy footage perfectly encapsulating the retro vibe of “Lady for Sale.”

Now I would never wish harm on cats, of course. It's just that they ought not wish it on me either. But as I sat there bored nearly to felicide Tuesday night and praying for a cat-pocalypse on stage, I couldn't help but wonder why there's not a PETA for theatregoers - and if there were whether they'd douse the producers of CATS with cola or whatever liquid might represent the precious gasoline we wasted to reach the theatre.
