 Nancy Manocherian’s the cell theatre and Nightclub Cantata LLC, by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals, have announced the cast of Elizabeth Swados’ 1977 breakout sensation Nightclub Cantata, a provocative, eclectic and heralded theatrical creation rarely seen since its inception decades ago.

Opera represents the full range of the human experience—so it is fitting that people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences will find relevance in Utah Opera's four productions in the 2022-23 season at Salt Lake City's Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre.

Boyz II Men will be performing as part of the After Hours Concert Series at  The SERVPRO Pavilion in The Meadow Event Park in Doswell, Virginia on Saturday, September 17th.  Tickets go on sale Friday, March 25, 2022, at 10:00 AM. A limited number of Early Bird General Admission tickets will be available for $26 until March 31 while supplies last.

 Fault Line Theatre will continue the 2022 Season of Irons in the  Fire, the organization’s reading series of new plays in development, with God Save the Queer by Zackary Grady, directed by Portia Krieger and featuring Michael Urie (George), Mallory Portnoy (Charlotte), Keshav Moodliar (Tariq), Seth Clayton (Louis), and Mary McCann (Kate).

Opera Columbus takes on mid-20th-century American political intrigue, communism and the “lavender scare” in a work that the Chicago Tribune called “one of the most accomplished New American Operas.” 1950s Washington D.C. serves as a backdrop for Fellow Travelers, composed by Gregory Spears with a libretto by Greg Pierce, based on Thomas Mallon's 2007 bestselling novel of the same name. 

It’s a chance to sit in an intimate space with artists who excel at telling a story you will never see in a large opera house or performance hall. A STEADY RAIN is tough, profane, and full of over-the-top masculinity, and yet it feels as progressive as it can be. It asks tough questions, and it makes you uncomfortable with its answers.

Following a successful run of CVRep's second play of the season, Life X 3, the playhouse continues its season of Hopes, Dreams, and Expectations 2021-2022 with Closer Than Ever, a musical revue directed by Ron Celona, with music by David Shire, lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr., and musical direction by Scott Storr. The cast includes four actors with impeccable musical theater credentials: Michael Bullard, Jeffrey Landman, Janna Cardia, and Julie Garnyé. THE BAND’S VISIT, now playing at ASU Gammage in Tempe until February 13, may tell the small, modest tale of a group of musicians from another country stranded overnight in the middle of nowhere, but it's really about friendship, loneliness, and wasted opportunities; characters discovering how similar they really are, and it does this in a deeply affecting yet witty and often very funny way.

The Chicago Philharmonic Society will present its third of four concerts of its 32nd Season, Fanfare Chicago on March 27, 2022 at Harris Theater for Music and Dance (205 E Randolph, Chicago).

This April, the English National Opera (ENO) presents a unique concert of Joseph Haydn's Seven Last Words on the Cross, and Joel Thompson's Seven Last Words of the Unarmed. This is the first time these two pieces have been performed together live in the UK.

Shakespeare's Globe has announced the full cast of The Merchant of Venice, performed in the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, directed by Abigail Graham and designed by Sarah Beaton.

So what does a cabaret director do? Today in my ongoing series, THERE ARE NO ONE-PERSON SHOWS, we will find out from one of the busiest cabaret directors in New York, Marc Tumminelli. Marc is the founder of Broadway Workshop, which provides year-round, professional-level classes and workshops for kids 8-19 with some of the finest artists working on Broadway and in the West End. He is also the founder of Project Broadway, a non-profit that provides scholarship opportunities to young performers.

The SHU Community Theatre will present a month of film programming in November. Thursday, Nov. 4 & Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.: The Auschwitz Report. The harrowing true story of Freddy and Walter, two young Slovak Jews deported to Auschwitz in 1942.

On Monday, December 13, at 8:00pm ET, Emmy and Tony Award–winning actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth will ring in the holiday season at the Metropolitan Opera with a one-night-only concert, Kristin Chenoweth: Christmas at the Met.

The show still has a winning recipe, but this touring production doesn't measure up to its 2018 D.C. predecessor.

LA Opera has opened their 35th season with Verdi's IL TROVATORE. Conducted by James Conlon and directed by Francisco Negrín, live performances at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion through October 10th will be supplemented by two live streams October 3rd and 6th. IL TROVATORE stars Guanqun Yu in the role of Leonora. Had the chance to query Guanqun on her vocal regimen and her lightbulb moment when she realized she wanted a career singing opera.

Ahead of its 10th anniversary season, the Young Women's Choral Projects of San Francisco (YWCP) announced today that Founding Director Susan McMane will retire in July 2022. At the end of the forthcoming season, Dr. McMane will conduct her final concerts with the Young Women's Chorus in San Francisco on Wednesday, June 23, 2022, and in Paris on Saturday, July 3, 2022.

BIRDLAND THEATER will present “The Lineup” with Susie Mosher – the wild, anything-goes variety show featuring entertainers from the Broadway, cabaret and comedy scenes – every Tuesday evening at 8:30 PM.

Sher is launching SRO Productions alongside JT Rogers and Cambra Overend to produce entertainment for TV, film, and stage.
