​​​​​​​The UK's leading new musical theatre company for young people 11-21 years old has announced their 2022 season of summer performances filled with brand new musicals, adaptations, some returning BYMT shows and even dance led work.

William Shakespeare's joyous and popular comedy Much Ado About Nothing will open at Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, the professional theatre on the campus of DeSales University. The show previews July 13 and 14, opens July 15, and runs through August 7 in the Schubert Theatre at the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts.

Today, Broadway’s upcoming production of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman announced that McKinley Belcher III will join the cast as Willy and Linda Loman’s son, “Happy.” Producers also revealed key members of the creative team, who will help bring the show to life at the Hudson Theatre for a limited 17-week engagement starting September 19.

Philipsburg Manor, the country's first living history museum to focus on slavery in the colonial North, will be welcoming visitors for Juneteenth, observed on Monday, June 20. Guided tours of the site will be offered between 10:30am-3:30pm.

The Orange Tree Theatre today announces the full cast for Pierre Marivaux's The False Servant, translated by Martin Crimp, whose prolific international career began at the Orange Tree Theatre, including the recent hit revival of Dealing with Clair. Before his final season as Artistic Director of the OT, Paul Miller, directs Uzair Bhatti, Will Brown, Julian Moore-Cook, Phoebe Pryce, Lizzy Watts and Silas Wyatt-Barke.

Dances We Dance (DWD), the newly created New York-based dance company, will present PASSAGES, its first self-produced season June 3-5, at the Theater at St. Jeans, 150 East 76th Street.   DWD is a small, dedicated team of dancers whose passion will bring to life the repertory works of Isadora Duncan and new choreography by Catherine Gallant and Francesca Todesco.

Penguin Rep Theatre announced today the Off-Broadway premiere of Mr. Parker, a new play written by Michael McKeever and directed by Joe Brancato. Performances will begin Wednesday, June 1, 2022, for a limited engagement through June 25, 2022, at Theatre Row – Theatre 1 (410 West 42nd Street). Opening Night is Monday, June 6, 2022, at 7:00PM.

Today, The Bentonville Film Festival unveiled their distinguished Competition Jury, singularly dedicated to inclusive representation in media and entertainment. The festival, produced by the BFFoundation and chaired by Academy Award-winning Actor Geena Davis, will take place in-person June 22-26 and virtually June 22-July 3. To mark the release of Born Losers, Altameda has unveiled a new music video for their song “Sweet Susie.' The video shows Altameda guitarist and vocalist, Troy Snaterse. The album was recorded in Toronto by Thomas D’Arcy (Neko Case, The Sheepdogs) and mixed in Portland, OR by Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, Whitney, R.E.M.).

On February 19, 2022, I had the opportunity to perform with Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra (ECSO) in the world premiere of Scattering, a ground-breaking electroacoustic piece that explores two of today's most prominent world events: the Covid-19 pandemic and the death of George Floyd, all the while including a brand new instrument especially designed for the orchestra conductor to wear on his wrist, performing alongside the musicians. In the months prior to the performance, the ECSO recorded small excerpts which the composer, Joseph Butch Rovan, then analyzed and reimagined, changing the sound entirely and making it coordinate with a special wrist-worn device during the live performance. The device, called TOSHI (The Orchestra Synthesis Human Interface) was expertly worn by its namesake, Toshi Shimada, the ECSO conductor. The piece continues to break barriers with not only the invention of a new instrument, but by making it one that the conductor wears to make him a performer alongside the symphony musicians. Furthermore, the device communicates with the composer’s laptop at the back of the audience, sending out a variety of sounds (including the sound of a person exhaling) through the surround system at the theater. After learning about this novel work, I wanted to learn more, so I sat down with the conductor and composer just before the premiere.
