Rejoice! A Festivus (for The Rest Of Us) Cabaret Comes To Vancouver

Festivus is a secular holiday 'traditionally' celebrated on December 23rd as an alternate to the pressures and commercialism of the holiday season. Originally created by writer Daniel O'Keefe, Festivus entered popular culture after it was made the focus of a 1997 episode of Seinfeld called 'The Strike' which O'Keefe's son Dan O'Keefe co-wrote. The non-commercial holiday celebrations, as depicted on Seinfeld, include a Festivus dinner, an unadorned aluminum Festivus pole, airing of grievances, Feats of Strength and declaring 'Festivus miracles' (which are actually easily explained events). Eden Espinosa and Erin Dilly Join SOUTH PACIFIC 70th Anniversary Concert

Broadway Dreams and The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization announced today that two-time Grammy Award-winner Isabel Leonard, Broadway vet Eden Espinosa, and Tony Award nominee Erin Dilly will join the cast of the previously announced 70th Anniversary gala concert celebration of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize Award-winning musical triumph, South Pacific. The evening will take place on Monday, December 10, 2018 at The St. Regis New York (2 E 55th Street) and will serve as a fundraiser for Broadway Dreams, a not-for-profit performing arts training organization with global reach. Tickets for the event start at $1,000 and can be purchased at broadwaydreams.org/event-tickets. (more...)

The World Premiere Of SLAVE PLAY Extends Run At New York Theatre Workshop

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) (Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director Jeremy Blocker) announced today that due to high demand, the world premiere of Slave Play by Jeremy O. Harris (Daddy, Zola), directed by two-time Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara (Bootycandy), will run for an additional two weeks. Originally scheduled to play its final performance on December 30, 2018, Slave Play will now play additional performances through Sunday January 13, 2019. Slave Play began previews on Monday, November 19, 2018 and will open Sunday, December 9 at New York Theatre Workshop (79 E. 4th Street New York, NY 10003). (more...)

BWW Album Review: CAROLS FOR A CURE VOLUME 20 Brings Back Old Favorites for a Spectacular Collection of Holiday Songs

Of the many traditions and events that occur during Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids' twice yearly collection periods, one of the sweetest and subtlest is the annual Carols For a Cure compilation album. The recent release marks the twentieth anniversary of the tradition, where the casts of a variety of currently running Broadway shows record a special holiday song to be included on the album. This years album the album includes ten bonus tracks of songs from previous Carols For a Cure albums as well as eighteen new songs from current Broadway casts. As with every Broadway Cares/Equity Fight Aids fundraiser, all proceeds from the sales of the album goes to the organization's charitable endeavors. (more...)
