Founded in 1993, Southwark Playhouse has always been a local theatre, fostering strong community links and helping to revive neglected parts of Southwark. After settling into its Elephant and Castle home after several temporary venues, the theatre is now fundraising to relocate again to a truly secure and permanent home on Newington Butts, with a satellite studio back under the arches of London Bridge. Beloved Los Angeles band that dog. -- comprised of guitarist/vocalist Anna Waronker, drummer Tony Maxwell, and bassist/vocalist Rachel Haden -- will release their first new album in twenty-two years on October 4th, 2019 via UMe.  The record, entitled Old LP, was recorded over the last three years in Los Angeles, and features guest appearances from Maya Rudolph, Randy Newman, Graham Coxon (Blur), Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Charlotte Caffey (The Go-Go's), Tanya Haden (The Haden Sisters), violinist Kaitlin Wolfberg, Andrew Dost (fun.), and Steve McDonald (Redd Kross).  A first taste of the album, a totally classic that dog. song, titled 'If You Just Didn't Do It,' picks up beautifully where the band left off in the late 90's.

NYU Skirball will present the world premiere John Kelly's Underneath the Skin, a NYU Skirball commission, running October 11 and 12, 2019 at 7:30 pm at NYU Skirball.

British synthpop stalwarts Nature of Wires present their new double album 'Modus', out on August 16 via Manchester's Analogue Trash label. Comprising 18 tracks, this is 80s-influenced synthpop with a dark edge. The album had its genesis in the late 80s and early 90s, when the band were in the middle of a creative hot streak.

In 2018, Ingrid Robinson launched Artists & Charities Hand in Hand with a small art exhibition and sale as a way to help raise funds for the Constance & David Blacher Children's Special Needs Program. The show was a success, so Robinson took it a step further and organized a second show at the Lighthouse Point Yacht and Racquet Club, this time benefitting the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.

Beyond belief lies the heart of science fiction and this fall, fans of the genre will assemble at the inaugural Dystopia Sci-Fi Con, a new interactive event featuring a cinematic lineup of sci-fi, cyberpunk, virtual reality, and future noir alongside special guests, panels, exhibitors, and more. The gathering will also host the first half of The 8th Annual Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival, a thriving platform for independent film in honor of acclaimed novelist Philip K. Dick. A number of celebrated actors, filmmakers, and speakers will appear including David Brin, Barney Burman, Elizabeth Karr, Julianna Robinson, Tim Russ, Saku Sakamoto, M.D. Selig, and John Alan Simon. The hit musical that critics have described as "Jersey Boys meets West Side Story," and "An entertaining, heartwarming, high-powered crowd-pleaser," (amNewYork), A Bronx Tale is headed to Kansas City as part of the 2019 AdventHealth Broadway Series. Featuring a book by Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri, music by Oscar, Grammy, and Tony Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Grammy Award winner and Oscar and Tony Award nominee Glenn Slater, and direction by two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro and four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, with choreography by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo, A Bronx Tale will play under the stars at Starlight Theatre July 30-August 4. 

The musical Mary Poppins is currently playing at the Elbe Stage-Theatre in Hamburg. The show is based on the 1934 published novel about the famous nanny, created by Pamela L. Travers. Mary Poppins gained worldwide recognition through the 1964 movie with Julie Andrews and Dick van Dyke. In 1993, Cameron Mackintosh could convince Pamela L. Travers to take her novel to the stage.

When it opened on Broadway in 2006, The Drowsy Chaperone boasted an all-star cast and garnered five Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. You can expect that same quality in Broadway at Music Circus' third production of the summer, with Lynne Wintersteller returning to Sacramento in the title role. Lynne was last seen here in 2017 as Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly! and as Mother Superior in Sister Act, where she solidified her place as Music Circus royalty and left audiences anticipating her return. We are now lucky enough to witness that event and Lynne was generous enough to speak with Broadway World Sacramento about her newest role and what we can expect from her in the future.
