American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University has appointed Dayron J. Miles A.R.T.’s Associate Artistic Director.

Chances are you may have been scrolling through Tik Tok or Instagram over the last two years and happened upon a video of two brothers performing fresh, fun and amazing Irish dance routines together. Those brothers, Michael and Matthew Gardiner are currently on tour with the 25th Anniversary tour of RIVERDANCE which will make a stop here in Orlando January 20th – 22nd. I had a chance to speak with the brothers to learn more about how they got started dancing, their newfound social media fame and their involvement in what has become a global phenomenon over the last 28 years.

The Glam-Rock Musical Sensation with Music and Lyrics by Stephen Trask and a Book by John Cameron Mitchell is back in Austria for a limited run at the Vindobona. What a way to start the year. After Hedwig's first appearance in 2006, starring Andreas Bieber in the Leading Role and Anke Fielder as Yitzhak and the highly acclaimed production at the Landestheater Linz with Riccardo Greco in Heels and Ariana Schirasi-Fard as his Backup-Singer it's Drew Sarich together with his wife Ann Mandrella, to tell the story of Hansel Schmidt and his Angry Inch.

Uptown Knauer Performing Arts Center will brighten January with its annual Gala. Light Up The Night will once again give audiences an incredible event to celebrate Uptown. Saturday, January 14 at 5:30pm audiences will gather at the Chester County History Center for signature cocktails, hors d'oeuvres by local native, “Big Chef”  and Food Network Star Tom Pizzica of Philly Hots, live music from the Uptown! Singers, fun photos and a silent auction. 

Rubicon Theatre Company will present the Southern California premiere of THE REALISTIC JONESES, Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00 pm, with a press opening on Saturday, January 28 at 7:00 pm, running through Sunday, February 12.

Birthright: A Black Roots Music Compendium is an expansive overview of American Black roots music. Produced by author, professor, and GRAMMY®-nominated music historian Dr. Ted Olson, along with GRAMMY-winning producer, musician, and author Scott Billington, Birthright offers an introduction to the rich and often nuanced world of Black roots music.

Poet Voice Sucks, a funny poetry series featuring humorous poetry performed by writers, comedians, and actors, returns for its fourth edition at the Broadway Comedy Club on December 18th.

A Christmas Carol, The Broadway Musical was originally staged at the famous Madison Square Garden and was brought to life by Broadway heavy hitters, Alan Menken (Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Disney's The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors) and Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Seussical, Once on This Island), with a book by Mike Ockrent & Lynn Ahrens.

Building for the Arts announced that David J. Roberts will succeed Wendy Rowden as President. Rowden, who served as BFA’s President for eight years, will remain on BFA’s Board of Directors following her December 13, 2022 departure.

The band has announced a full US headline tour this winter, the “Best Night Of My Life Tour”, featuring support from Billy Raffoul. Yes, the Holiday Season is once again upon us. Time for merriment, gathering with friends, family, chosen family, and what have you to enjoy the sights, the sounds, and the food of the season. Amidst all of the hustle and bustle of the times, the Straz Center’s Carol Morsani Hall brings a different fable and tale of love, hope, and the courage to survive against all odds to its patrons following the close of Thanksgiving weekend, and ushering in the first week of December. Unlike Ghosts of both Past, and Present, patrons of the Straz Center are plunged head-first into a dark tale based on figures found in Greek Mythology, and the tale itself seems all too relevant and perfectly placed in our current climate. The Broadway Smash Hadestown takes the stage by storm and leaves no prisoners in its wake. I for one am thankful for this time, the time to sit in a sacred space and experience the undeniably beautiful event that is live theatre, and the Straz Center is the Gift that keeps on giving, not only during the holiday season but all year long. Their 2022/2023 Bank of America Broadway Season is one of the absolute best yet!
