What is a casting director? Casting directors work closely with members of a production's creative team to help them find ideal candidates for each role. Typically, they will not make the final decision on who is hired, but they often play a vital role in holding auditions, finding talent, and providing an array of options for key members of a show's production team.
by Paul Batterson - Sep 5, 2021
Chances are director Edward Carignan has never been a part of a production as wildly chaotic as NOTHING’S ON, the play which provides the backdrop for Short North Stage’s production of NOISES OFF. The fictional play within a play has enough egos, pratfalls, romance, and mistaken identities to make any director’s hair go white.
by Jerri Shafer - Sep 4, 2021

Circle Theatre, West Michigan's go-to destination for exceptional theatrical arts in an intimate setting continues their 69th season with the comedy Noises Off. How could you not love a play about theater critics? Especially where, as in Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound, now available in virtual format through Spooky Action Theater’s website, the critics are pompous, abrasive and criminally uninformed. Moon (Robert Bowen Smith) and Birdboot (Steve Beall), critics both, are the only audience – perhaps we should say witnesses – to the butchery known as Murder in Muldoon Manor. Muldoon is an enterprise so catastrophic that it makes Nothing On (the calamity being performed by the actors in Noises Off) seem like Beckett, or Shakespeare, or – Stoppard.
by Nicole Rosky - Aug 17, 2021
Running now through August 28th, Noises Off! is one of the funniest farces ever written - and quite a technical challenge. In celebration of the technical challenge, BroadwayWorld sat down with Circle Theatre's Technical Director and scenic designer for their latest production.

'Sands by Willa' is a behind-the-scenes look at opening night, when mayhem strikes because the lead actress has run off to Dundee with her new billionaire boyfriend Kendall, oh, and also, there are mites in the sand. The show alternates between what's going on backstage and the play onstage, and it's hard to tell what's more of a disaster.

Called “the funniest farce ever written,” Noises Off presents a manic menagerie of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On. Doors slamming, on and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play.
