Belvoir presents Tony-award winning hit Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill, a musical play about the life of jazz great Billie Holiday, starring AACTA Award-winner Zahra Newman, on from 14 September to 15 October 2023. 

Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival will present Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, written by acclaimed playwright Lanie Robertson with musical arrangements by Danny Holgate. Philadelphia award-winning artists Amina Robinson and Ebony Pullum reunite to stage the production which previews July 19 and 20, opens Friday, July 21 and runs through August 6 in the Schubert Theatre at the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts at DeSales University in Center Valley, PA.

In 1959, Billie Holiday, or a?oeLady Daya?? as she was called, performed one of her final shows in a run-down bar in South Philly. In Robertson's award-winning play, Holiday engages the audience with salty, often humorous reminiscences of her troubled life as a travelling performer in a segregated south. April 19, 2020 in the MainStage Theater at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA. Single tickets will be available for sale on August 1. Lady Day will replace the previously announced Piaf.

Garry Marshall Theatre presents Deidrie Henry in the Broadway play Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill by Lanie Robertson for 15 performances May 15 to June 2, 2019 (press opening is Friday, May 17). The director is Gregg T. Daniel and playing Jimmy Powers is musical director Abdul Hamid Royal.  Daniel most recently directed The Mountaintop for Garry Marshall Theatre.
