Two years ago, I revisited French Woods Festival of the Arts (which I attended from 1999 to 2002 as a camper/teen actor and then as an assistant director/stage manager) and BroadwayWorld kindly published an article I wrote about the experience. In light of my responsibilities at work (attorney by day, theater critic by night) and at home (including a hyperactive toddler and commuting daily between NY and NJ), I was not planning on visiting again this past summer, but that instantly changed when I learned that the camp was planning on presenting 1776 for the first time in nearly two decades - and with an all-female cast.

Deadline reports that crime thriller 'Unsound' has tapped Anna Kendrick to star. The film will be directed by Bharat Nalluri; Matthew Ross and Christopher Edwards wrote the script.

For its seventh year of offering plays by contemporary Irish playwrights to Portland audiences, Corrib Theatre announces a three-show season: Eclipsed by Patricia Burke Brogan, James X by Gerard Mannix Flynn, and Kissing the Witch by Emma Donoghue. New York company Fiasco Theater has announced plans to expand its training programs beginning this fall. 

A dozen years after executive producers Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady asked Barenaked Ladies to compose a theme song for a new show they'd created called “The Big Bang Theory,” the multi-platinum band was invited back for last night's historic series finale. Vocalist/guitarist Ed Robertson recorded a special acoustic rendition for the momentous occasion, which can be seen by clicking HERE and heard  on all streaming platforms (along with an instrumental version) by clicking HERE.

Coming to the Durham Performing Arts Center from April 16th-21st is the national touring production of ANASTASIA. I recently had the great pleasure of interviewing actress Joy Franz, who is currently appearing in it as the Dowager Empress. A role that in the 1997 animated film was voiced by Angela Lansbury and on Broadway was originated by two-time Tony nominee Mary Beth Peil.

After a six-year hiatus, John Vanderslice has returned with his highly anticipated new album The Cedars, out today on Native Cat Recordings. Vanderslice dedicated the past few years working in his renowned Bay Area studio Tiny Telephone, where artists like Death Cab For Cutie, Sleater-Kinney, and Spoon have recorded, but then returned to songwriting, pouring out an emotional series of songs about his despair over his mother's death, his complicated relationship with drugs, and his nostalgia for a pre-tech boom San Francisco.
