PuSh International Performing Arts Festival (PuSh) presents its 16th annual edition from January 21 to February 9, 2020 at various venues across the Lower Mainland. Featuring 27 works from 24 companies from nine countries a?" including six world premieres a?" the festival line-up is dedicated to creative risk-taking and dynamic interdisciplinary collaboration. PuSh 2020 is a poignant reminder of art's power to bring communities together and effect change.

Sam Shepard Double Bill Joins Odyssey's 50th Anniversary Season

What happens when 1880 Western bandits are brought back to life in Azusa, CA by a space alien? Sam Shepard's The Unseen Hand joins Odyssey Theatre Ensemble's 50th Anniversary a?oeCirca '69a?? Season of significant and adventurous plays that premiered around the time of the company's inception, coupled with Shepard's gritty and audacious Killer's Head. Longtime Shepard collaborator Darrell Larson directs both plays for a Jan. 18 opening at the Odyssey Theatre in West L.A., where performances will continue through March 8.

Ilya Kabakov and Viktor Pivovarov Will Be Subjects of New Dodge Collection Exhibition

 A new exhibition invites visitors to delve into one of the hallmarks of unofficial Soviet art from the height of the Cold War. Dialogues a?" Ilya Kabakov and Viktor Pivovarov: Stories About Ourselves, which opens at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers on November 30, focuses on the two artists' work created in the format of the album: an innovative genre of visual art popularized in the 1970s by conceptual artists in Moscow. Drawn from the museum's Norton and Nancy Dodge Collection of Nonconformist Art from the Soviet Union, the exhibition provides a rare opportunity to view several albums in their entirety. With loose pages of delicately colored images, often complemented by handwritten texts, an album is simultaneously a drawing and a novel, an installation and a performance.

Located on the fourth floor of the Rubin, alongside the heart of the Museum a?" the Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room a?" a?oeShrine Room Projectsa?? feature artists who reinterpret traditional and religious iconography and practices. The exhibition includes rotating video installations by Shiva Ahmadi; an interactive sculptural piece by Genesis Breyer P-Orridge; and newly acquired work by Tsherin Sherpa.

New York City Gay Men's Chorus today announced that Gavin Thrasher will be their new Artistic Director starting in September 2019 bringing with him a wealth of expertise having served as the Interim Artistic Director of the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA), leading their youth programming, and founding their a capella group, Aftershock. Thrasher succeeds Dr. Charles Beale who will step down later this summer after twelve successful seasons to pursue other artistic endeavors. Thrasher was selected after an international executive search process guided by Arts Consulting Group.

In 1979 stage and screen star Debbie Reynolds founded the Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio in North Hollywood, which remained operational for decades to follow. Stars such as Bette Midler, Michael Jackson, and Mariah Carey all rehearsed there. Now, according to TMZ, the building has unfortunately been demolished.

Ailey's 60th Anniversary Holiday Season Continues To Move Audiences At New York City Center

On Tuesday, December 4th, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater continued its historic 60th Anniversary season with the world premiere of Ronald K. Brown's The Call, the renowned choreographer's seventh work for the Company which he describes as “a love letter to Ailey.” The New York Times says, “The Call… is something of a conversation between the choreographers, a beauty of a dance that ripples along while highlighting Ailey's formality, his ebullience and how he came to find his choreographic voice.” There are four more chances to see The Call this season: Dec. 8 mat, 9 eve, 20, and 29 mat.
