The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association announced today the first details of the 2020 Hollywood Bowl summer season, with the entire season to be announced in February 2020.

Who would guess that what has been described as a sleepy little cowtown is actually a hotbed of young musical talent? The latest to join Sacramento's rank of up-and-coming people-to-watch is Sam C. Jones, a transplant from Virginia who landed on the west coast in 2016 and has quickly made a name for himself in the world of local professional theatre. He has recently returned to his passion of songwriting and will be releasing an album of original work later this winter. Broadway World Sacramento spoke to Sam about the King, country music, and what gets his creative juices flowing.

Popular vocal group Under the Streetlamp is set to give a one-night performance at Kingsborough Community College, bringing a repertoire of classic hits from the American Doo Wop, Motown and old time Rock 'n' Roll Songbook that is sure to delight audiences. Only through September 15th can you catch the recent Broadway hit Come From Away at Wharton Center in East Lansing. This poignant yet uplifting tale opened up on Broadway in 2017, and has since launched productions all over the world.

Craft Recordings is proud to reissue The Country Blues of John Lee Hooker, a showcase of traditional (folk/country) sound and one-chord blues all withJohn Lee Hooker's smooth baritone vocals. Unaccompanied and playing acoustic instead of his usual amplified guitar, Hooker recorded a wonderfully varied set of deep Delta blues, moans, boogies, one field holler, and even a bit of hokum. Due out August 2nd, The Country Blues of John Lee Hooker was cut from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl and housed in a tip-on jacket, these recordings are stripped down so the listener can hear the details and nuances from the original recording.

Banhart emerged seemingly out of nowhere in 2002 with his first CD collection, Oh Me Oh My…The Way the Day Goes By the Sun Is Setting Dogs Are Dreaming Lovesongs of the Christmas Spirit, compiled by Swans frontman Michael Gira for his Young God label from homemade recordings the itinerant Banhart had amassed as he traveled the world. He was born Devendra Obi Banhart in Houston, Texas, but spent his childhood in Caracas, Venezuela; as a teenager, his family returned to the States, relocating in Southern California, where he soon became enamored of skateboard culture. "Ballad of Keenan Milton," in fact, is an homage to the legendary skateboarder, who died tragically in 2001 in a freak accident.
