 La Jolla Playhouse has announced the first five productions of its 2023/2024 season, including the world-premiere musical The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson Musical, music and lyrics by Joe Iconis, book by Joe Iconis and Gregory S. Moss, directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley.

Jacqueline Woodson’s 2018 children’s book The Day You Begin comes to radiant musical life in the Family Theater at the Kennedy Center this holiday season.

2021 and 2022 brought forth single collaborations with Santana & Rob Thomas (“Move”), Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray (“Nice & Easy”), CVBZ (“This Time is Right”), Chad Tepper (“Timeless”), and Fedde le Grand (“One Way Up”), followed by unique cover renditions of songs by Olivia Rodrigo (“good 4 u”) and Post Malone (“Circles”). Watch the video now!

Alternative rock band American Authors is gearing up for the holidays with another brand new Christmas track. “Sleigh Ride” serves as a follow up to the previously released “Christmas Karaoke”, a song that celebrates holiday traditions. With these new tracks, American Authors is doing their part to serve up a little extra joy this holiday season.

Soho Rep has announced a one-week extension, to November 20, of its nearly-sold-out world premiere production of Montag, written by Kate Tarker (THUNDERBODIES at Soho Rep; Dionysus Was Such a Nice Man) and directed by Dustin Wills (Wolf Play, presented by Soho Rep & Ma-Yi Theater Company; Frontières Sans Frontières).

It’s never too early to get into the holiday spirit, and alternative rock band American Authors are here to help get those sleigh bells ringing. The band has released a brand new song titled “Christmas Karaoke”, which celebrates holiday traditions and invokes the spirit of the season.

Behind-the-scenes antics, a play within a play, and costumed comedy are well loved because they work, and INTO THE BREECHES! combines them in wartime for a fun night at the theatre.  INTO THE BREECHES! is playing at North Coast Repertory Theatre through November 13th. 

Audible Inc. will present the world premiere of Lucy, written and directed by BAFTA Award nominee Erica Schmidt (Cyrano, MacBeth). Performances of the limited five-week-only engagement will begin Saturday, January 28, 2023 with an official opening on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at the Minetta Lane Theatre.

Katy Lipson for Aria Entertainment has announced the casting for the world premiere of Claus The Musical which will run at The Lowry from 14 December 2022 – 8 January. The cast includes Georgie Buckland who will play Necile, Junior Delius (AK), Chris Draper (Will Knook), Jazz Evans (Awgwa), and more.

19th November 2022 sets the scene for the third-year return of the highly anticipated Indie Musician Summit, a 100% free conference for independent and emerging artists, providing practical training, industry insights and new ideas to propel music careers forward.

Pasadena Playhouse has announced a Free Ticket Initiative for its critically acclaimed production of Sanctuary City by Pulitzer Prize-winner Martyna Majok (Cost of Living) which is now in its last two weeks through October 9 only.

Playwrights Horizons will present the New York premiere of Bruce Norris’s Downstate, directed by Pam MacKinnon, October 28–December 11 (opening November 15). This provocative work surrounds a registered address in downstate Illinois, where four men convicted of sex crimes share a group home, living out their days post-incarceration.

Next up at Theatre 40, Norm Foster’s A Clean Brush world premieres September 23, 2022. Howard Storm directs the cast of Mandy Fason, Susan Priver, Michael Kerr and James Lemire. I got the chance to pepper Norm (a.k.a. the Canadian Neil Simon) on this world premiere and his extensive resume of 67 plays.

Soho Rep will present Montag, written by Kate Tarker, directed by Dustin Wills and with original opera music by Daniel Schlosberg. The world premiere production of Montag runs October 12–November 13 at Soho Rep.

Recently, I had the chance to speak with Christopher M. Ramirez, who is playing Touchstone in the Public’s musical adaptation of As You Like It, the second time the production has been staged at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. What did our critic think of FROZEN at Key Bank State?

Weightless will play a limited engagement from September 17–October 16, 2022 at WP Theater, with support from piece by piece productions. The off-Broadway stage premiere of this soaring and dynamic indie rock musical follows the smash success of Weightless on screen, which was reconceived for film and live-streamed by WP in a limited run in 2021.

Pasadena Playhouse will present the Los Angeles premiere of Sanctuary City by Pulitzer Prize-winner Martyna Majok (Cost of Living). Performances are scheduled from September 14 through October 9. The production stars Ana Nicolle Chavez (Apple TV +’s Truth Be Told) as “G,” and Miles Fowler (HBO’sWinning Time) as “B.”

Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced the full cast and creative team for the world premiere musical, Goddess. The musical stage production is conceived and directed by Saheem Ali, music and lyrics by Michael Thurber, and written by Jocelyn Bioh. Previews begin Saturday, August 13, and the show runs through Sunday, September 25.
