This morning, CBS Sunday Morning aired a segment on actor-dancer-singer-director and Broadway veteran Billy Porter. In the interview, Porter talks with correspondent Seth Doane about a childhood filled with years of rejection, doubt and abuse – and about how he survived and triumphed.

Thom Schilling, the general manager, production supervisor and stage manager for dozens of Broadway, Off-Broadway and global tours for over 40 years, died in his sleep on August 19 in New York City. The cause of death is not presently known. Born in 1956, Thom was 64 years old.

The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. One enthusiastic parent whose child participated in Segerstrom Center for the Arts’   Musical Theatre Training Program this past fall said, “Please offer more musical theatre classes soon!”  And so, the Center’s Education Department has announced a new series of classes for aspiring young performers ages 9-18 in February.

Guests this week include: Ilene Graff ('Mr. Belvedere,' Grease, I Love My Wife), Zach Pizer (Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked, Sweeney Todd), Ben Hale, and Postmodern Jukebox singer Therese Curatolo.
