The Directors Guild of America  today announced the nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials and Documentary for 2018.

NBC has won the primetime ratings week of Dec. 24-30 in adults 18-49, total viewers and every other key ratings measure, according to “live plus same day” viewership figures from Nielsen Media Research.

NBC has announced the inaugural class for its landmark Alternative Directors Program, the industry's first directing pipeline program for unscripted shows. With the new initiative, NBC takes a step toward equal representation behind the scenes on alternative series – an unserved part of the industry when it comes to inclusion efforts, despite the prevalence of unscripted shows on TV. The program gives experienced female and ethnically diverse directors access to expand their repertoire of alternative formats and complex directing styles with the ultimate goal of opening the door to future projects.

Billboard journalist Tom Roland was presented with the 2018 CMA Media Achievement Award backstage Wednesday, Nov. 14 during “The 52nd Annual CMA Awards” at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. Country Music Hall of Fame member and three-time CMA Awards winner Bill Anderson addressed journalists during the CMA Awards press conference, surprising Roland with the honor. 

Canadian Brass are the grand masters of the holidays, crisscrossing the globe every December, bringing their hallmark gifts of virtuosity and old-fashioned fun. Beginning in 1970, Canadian Brass rescued these sometimes-overlooked instruments and placed them center stage. They have entered America's living rooms on The Tonight Show, Entertainment Tonight, and Sesame Street, and when they're back up north, they are called upon to perform for visiting heads of state by invitation of the Canadian government.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the full cast and creative team for Paradise Square: An American Musical. The world premiere is helmed by acclaimed director Moises Kaufman, with choreography by the legendary Bill T. Jones and a book by Marcus Gardley, Craig Lucas, and Larry Kirwan. Music by Jason Howland and Larry Kirwan, with lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and based on the songs of Stephen Foster. Paradise Square is produced by special arrangement with Garth H. Drabinsky in association with Peter LeDonne and Teatro Proscenium Limited Partnership.

Green Space has announced a diverse roster of artists for its signature programs this December. Take Root will present an evening of work by Ramona Sekulovic and Inclined Dance Project on November 30th and December 1st, and Fertile Ground showcases works-in-progress by multiple dance artists on December 2nd.

In the interest of full disclosure, what I know about modern dance could fit in a thimble. In addition, I am a Boston Red Sox fan of the first magnitude, back to the days of Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski. So what was I doing out at Veterans Auditorium on a Friday night when game three of the World Series was about to begin? Well, I, along with about 2000 other similarly misdirected souls, was out to cover a modern dance performance by a group called Pilobolus put on by FirstWorks. I am really happy I went. It was a mind-blowing show, which combined the strength of David Ortiz, the grace and speed of Mookie Betts and the trickery of a Tim Wakefield knuckleball; and when I got home, the ballgame still had four-and-a-half hours to go!

We live in a world of voyeurism. Reality tv in all its' forms is booming, and getting more extreme as time passes. Survivor (Expeditie Robinson) is such a format. The first Dutch edition in 2000 was an instant hit. Having evolved since the first edition, together with other reality tv formats, a valid question is raised... Are we going to far with candidates on reality tv shows? Where's the moral high ground? Where does the show end and intrusion in private life's begin? Where's the line?
