Audiences at St Helens Theatre Royal during November can look forward to a packed programme dedicated to music, as well as comedy performers including Johnny Vegas and a top children's touring show featuring mythical beasts.

The Havana Film Festival NY, a project of The American Friends of the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba, is back in theaters to present an exceptional program celebrating the diversity of voices and cultural expressions of Ibero America and its diaspora through inspiring stories on the big screen, November 5-11, 2021.

The Echo Theater Company’s world premiere production of POOR CLARE will finally open in October (now already in previews), 19 months after the originally scheduled March 2020 opening was shuttered by the pandemic. Playwright Chiara Atik spins the medieval story of St. Francis Assisi into a modern tale seen through the eyes of his sister Clare Assisi.  Echo associate artistic director Alana Dietze directs the POOR CLARE cast of Kari Lee Cartwright, Martica De Cardenas, Tony DeCarlo, Ann Noble, Michael Sturgis and Donna Zadeh, with Jordan Hull as the titular Clare.

Today, Ucross, the renowned artist residency program in northeastern Wyoming, announced its Fall 2021 Fellows. 

In 1983, Sally Ride, or as proclaimed in the play, “She should be called Dr. Ride,” an Astrophysicist became the first and youngest American woman in Space aboard the Orbiter Challenger. Liza Birkenmeier’s play is not about Sally Ride, even though her name is mentioned throughout the 85 minutes. However, under the veil of the ’80s in St. Louis, Missouri we meet four women living out their lives and by a matter of opinion telling stories that boldly go where none of them have gone before so to speak. At its heart, Birkenmeier’s script is compelling, enlightening, and stunning from top to bottom, a true marvel of live theatre. In her script, we get to meet characters that are not as often displayed on-stage, and that is what makes this show so endearing. Being that this show is set in the 80’s smartphones, and other things like social media, don’t exist yet; which renders the compelling humanity shown throughout the script. It’s a breath of fresh air as we learn of these women, and how they may or may not enjoy their current way of life, and yet so different in a matter of opinions and lifestyle they are all one and the same.

New York City Center today announced the first set of casting for the 2022 Encores! season and the Spring Gala | Encores! Into the Woods on the opening night of the production, May 4. The next chapter of the Tony-honored series opens February 2 – 6, 2022 with the 1983 Tony-nominated musical The Tap Dance Kid.

American Friends of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition will present Juan Perez Floristán, Pianist as part of the Gold Medalist 16th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition. The performance will take place Thursday evening, 14 Oct 2021 at 7:00 PM at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Paula Poundstone, whose razor-sharp improv skills have delighted comedy audiences for nearly 40 years, brings her acclaimed one-woman show to the A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts on October 21.

The Grammy Award-winning Houston Chamber Choir, under the direction of Founder and Artistic Director Robert Simpson, has announced its new 2021-2022 season, Sing Out the New Day, with season subscriptions now on sale to the public. Single tickets for all concerts go on sale on Aug. 2.

The celebrated tenor Kim Begley made his Royal Opera House debut in 1983 and has since then established himself at the forefront of the repertoire, with credits ranging from Britten to Busoni, Wagner to Brett Dean's opera of Hamlet. In keeping wih Shakespeare, if not this time round with singing, Begley has joined a starry lineup of British opera world names to perform King Lear later this month at the Grange Festival for three performances - and we're talking the play in its full, unadultered majesty and not the opera, with Sit John Tomlinson as Lear, Thomas Allen as Gloucester, and Begley as the Fool, and many other notable names besides. As it happens, Begley cut his teeth as a performer some years back with the Royal Shakespeare Company and explains this return to his classical roots below.

Dorset Theatre Festival will open its 44th season with a revival of Christopher Durang's comedy Laughing Wild outdoors at the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester, VT.

It was just announced by the Pulitzer Prize organization that Katori Hall's The Hot Wing King has officially won the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. This year's finalists included Circle Jerk by Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley and Stew by Zora Howard.
