Avalanche: A Love Story will open at the Roslyn Packer Theatre this month, following rave reviews in London. Maxine Peake plays the lead role in Julia Leigh's adaptation of her powerful memoir.

Pear Theatre's 2019-20 season opens in August with 'An Ideal Husband,' a searing comedy of virtue and moral inflexibility. Directed by Jenny Hollingworth, 'An Ideal Husband' previews on August 22, with press and Opening Night on Friday, August 23, followed by a champagne gala. The show runs Thursdays through Sundays through September 15. All performances are held at the Pear Theatre, 1110 La Avenida St., Mountain View. Presented by Asian CineVision, the 42nd Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF42), and taking place July 25 – August 3 in New York City, has announced its full film lineup. The first and longest running Asian interest film festival in the country, AAIFF42 will be presenting 12 narrative features, 9 documentary features, and 67 short films, from 19 countries.

Two-time Emmy Award-winner Dorothy Lyman, renowned for her acting and directing on All My Children, Mama's Family, and The Nanny, and in films like Blow and The Departed, will bring her powerful play, Gladstone Hollow, to Westchester County's Schoolhouse Theater from June 13-30.

Acclaimed writer and actor Alex Gwyther (Our Friends, The Enemy; Eyes Closed, Ears Covered) will perform in the world premiere of his gripping and tender new play Ripped at this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe, playing Underbelly, Cowgate, (venue 61) from 1-25 August (excl. 12) at 13:00. Central Works "cheeky" thriller The Victorian Ladies' Detective Collective by award-winning  playwright Patricia Milton has been extended through June 9 (originally scheduled to close June 2). Directed by Gary Graves, this show is the fifth writer/director comic collaboration between Central Works' resident playwright and its company co-director. Last season, Central Works' production of Bamboozled by Patricia Milton won 4 TBA awards, including both awards in the Outstanding Performer slots for Stacy Ross & Chelsea Bearce (also playing in this production), along with Entire Ensemble and Outstanding Production.

The Donmar Warehouse today announces full casting for Artistic Director Michael Longhurst's inaugural Donmar production Europe by David Greig. The production, directed by Gary Graves, is the fifth writer/director comic collaboration between Central Works' resident playwright and its company co-director. In Victorian London it seems Jack the Ripper may be at it again where sisters Loveday and Valeria run a boarding house for Single Ladies. When a series of gruesome murders terrorizes the neighborhood, they appeal to the police for protection. But Scotland Yard is no help at all. The bodies are piling up on their doorstep! So the women join with an American ex-pat to bring the killer to justice on their own. Last season's CW production of Bamboozled by Patricia Milton won both TBA awards in the Outstanding Performer slots for Stacy Ross & Chelsea Bearce (now in this production), along with Entire Ensemble and Outstanding Production.

Maxine Peake is to star in Julia Leigh's adaptation of her powerful memoir, Avalanche: A Love Story, at the Barbican from Saturday 27 April-Sunday 12 May. A prolific theatre, television and film actress Maxine Peake's career highlights include Black Mirror, Funny Cow,Red Riding, The Devil's Whore, The Theory of Everything, Peterloo, The Falling, Shameless and an extensive list of dramas for the BBC including The Village, Silk, Criminal Justice, Three Girls and most recently, The Bisexual.  Constantly looking for new challenges and surprising audiences she has played a range of provocative and award-winning characters, notably the title role in Hamlet at the Manchester Royal Exchange. As a writer, she has retold fascinating stories of women in British history who achieved greatness, or faced adversity, though her plays, Beryl, The Last Testament of Lillian Bilocca and Queens of the Coal Age. Avalanche: A Love Story marks her debut at the Barbican Theatre.

The Worst Witch will fly into the West End for 7 weeks only, over the summer holidays, from 24 July * to 8 September (*all tickets for the 24 July performance are just £20.00!) following its hugely successful premiere at Royal & Derngate and hit UK tour. This new story, adapted for the stage from Jill Murphy's original books by Emma Reeves (who won a Royal Television Society Award for Best Children's TV Programme and 2017 British Screenwriters Award for Best Children's Programme for the televised version of The Worst Witch) was launched last November as Royal & Derngate's Made in Northampton 2018 Christmas show.
