Aquila's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM & FRANKENSTEIN Begin This Weekend

Aquila Theatre winds up its 54-city tour of the U.S. in New York City with William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, adapted by Desiree Sanchez and Peter Meineck. Directed by Aquila's Executive Artistic Director Desiree Sanchez, both plays will be performed in repertory for one weekend only - Friday, April 5th through Sunday, April 7th - at the Mezzanine Theatre at A.R.T./New York Theatres (502 West 53rd Street, NYC). The casts of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein include Harriet Barrow, Andrea Bellamore, Nicholas Charles, James Donovan, Lily Donovan, Jack Klaff and Robert Madeley.

A Midsummer Night's Dream and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein has scenic and lighting design by Stevie Mackie, costume design by Lara de Bruijn and Peter Todd, sound design by Jo Walker,and projections designed by Declan Randall. The Properties Master is Lauren Jean Russell. The assistant director is James Lavender, the fight director is Tom Ziebell, and the Production Stage Manager / AV Tech is John Nehlich.

Saturday, April 6 at 3pm - Frankenstein

The running time for A Midsummer Night's Dream is 2 hours, 15 minutes, including one 15-minute intermission. The running time for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is 1 hour, 50 minutes, including one 15-minute intermission.

Aquila Theatre, the foremost producer of touring classical theatre in the United States, visiting 50-60 American cities per year. In the spring of 2016, the company performed Romeo and Juliet, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Philoctetes at the GK Arts Center in Brooklyn; in 2015, a staged workshop production of A Female Philoctetes at BAM Fisher's Hillman Studio; in 2014, Euripides' Herakles at the BAM Fisherman; in 2012, Shakespeare's Macbeth at the GYM at Judson. At the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University, the company performed Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author in 2011, and in 2010, Shakespeare's As You Like It and Ibsen's An Enemy of the People. In 2009, at the Lucille Lortel theatre, the company performed Joseph Heller's Catch-22 and Homer's The Iliad: Book One, and in 2007 Prometheus Bound, with David Oyelowo at Classic Stage Company. Other notable NYC theaters have been Baruch Performing Arts Center in 2004-2005, the Gerald W. Lynch Theater with a production of Agamemnon with Olympia Dukakis in 2004, The New Victory Theater in 2003 with A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing at 45 Bleecker Street in 2001, and several productions at the Clark Theatre Lincoln Center from 2000-2005. Aquila has also appeared in numerous festivals and at venues around the world including performances in London, Holland, Germany, Greece, Scotland, Italy, Canada and Bermuda.

Aquila Theatre's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream is sponsored by The National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, presenting Shakespeare in American communities. Aquila Theatre is one of 40 professional theater companies selected to participate in bringing the finest productions of Shakespeare to middle and high school students in communities across the United States.
