Returning to Oakland's magnificent Paramount Theatre, Oakland Ballet Company is pleased to present its tenth annual production of Graham Lustig's The Nutcracker, Saturday and Sunday, December 21 - 22, at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. both days. This season marks the 48th year that Oakland Ballet will present a production of The Nutcracker.

This December, Lincoln Center presents a plethora of music, dance, theater, and panel events across the campus and beyond. After celebrating their 10th anniversary last month, the David Rubenstein Atrium continues to offer free programming consisting of diverse live performances, screenings, and panel conversations. The 2019-20 season of LC Kids (October 5-June 7, 2020) is in full swing with free and ticketed events developed for toddlers, children, and teenagers stepping into young adulthood. The ongoing Great Performers series (October 29-May 16, 2020) continues with a Lincoln Center debut for a Sunday Morning Coffee Concert.

The holiday season is in full swing at the National Philharmonic with a?oeHoliday Singin' Popsa?? on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. BMG and Niji Entertainment Group Inc. have partnered to reissue DIO's 1996 - 2004 studio albums: Angry Machines (1996), Magica (2000), Killing The Dragon (2002), and Master Of The Moon (2004). These newly remastered versions feature rare and never before released live and studio bonus tracks, and were remastered by longtime DIO collaborator Wyn Davis with updated artwork from frequent DIO designer Marc Sasso.

A few weeks ago I saw The Lightning Thief. Usually when a show opens, I don't read the reviews. But in this case I decided to read the first one I saw. And by the end I had very clearly reminded myself why I never read reviews. This show's reviews are just one part of a wider problem: the field of theater criticism as a whole. We need to completely revamp the way that theater is reviewed and the way that theater reviews can bring down a show.

Peak Performances presents Lena Herzog's Last Whispers, an immersive AV experience dedicated to vanishing languages, accompanied by panel discussions on select days, October 16-20 at the Alexander Kasser Theater at Montclair State University.
