Melissa Errico is one of the most reliable theatre divas in contemporary musical theatre. With her fierce belt and a knack for finding the most interesting moments in music, it's no surprise that she's released an album of Sondheim music. The surprise in Sondheim Sublime is which style of Sondheim she chooses: not the sly, sharp, witty Sondheim, but the bittersweet, thoughtful songs that sometimes get lost in the shuffle.

'Art isn't easy.' So sings the great-grandson of Georges Seurat in the second act of Sunday in the Park with George. This Pulitzer prize-winning musical, by Broadway titan Stephen Sondheim, is based on a painting: certainly no easy feat to create, even for Sondheim. The production of Sunday in the Park with George that closed last weekend at the American Theatre Company depicted a profound meditation on art-making, building a legacy, and how to relate to others through, and not in spite of, these processes. Sondheim is correct: art isn't easy. But the talented individuals behind the ATC production could have you fooled.

Patinkin has had a varied career of staring in films, television, in the recording studio, but his home is on the stage. The songs he sang in this concert were selected from his 'diary' album series which were songs (mostly covers) that were mostly hidden gems from great songwriters that he did stripped down versions of and released on a collection of 3 separate albums.
