On Sunday, June 16, Washington, D.C.'s theatre community gathered to celebrate the end of MICHAEL KAHN's 33-year tenure as Artistic Director of Shakespeare Theatre Company with musical and dramatic performances, special guests from the worlds of entertainment, politics, and media, and a mayoral proclamation.

This summer, Sierra Stages brings the legendary musical "Cabaret" to Nevada City with an all-local Nevada County production playing from July 11 through August 3 at the historic Nevada Theatre. With a book by Joe Masteroff, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, this musical masterpiece marks the 11th annual summer musical presented by Sierra Stages. "Cabaret" is based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood.

Founding Artistic Director Fred Anzevino today announced a partial lineup of musicals for the company's second year in residence at the Howard Street Theatre, the venue developed by the City of Evanston specifically for the company.

The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation, The Muny, and the Fabulous Fox Theatre are pleased to announce the nominees for the third St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards to be held on Sunday, June 2 at 4 p.m. at the Fabulous Fox Theatre. Musco Center presents actor, writer, singer, style icon, activist, and all-around Renaissance man Alan Cumming in Legal Immigrant on Wednesday, April 17 at 7:30 pm. The show is a cabaret of powerful songs and stories, anecdotes and social commentary written with the hope to change negative rhetoric around immigration. Cumming uses his own journey to obtaining American citizenship in 2008 to remind audiences that America is a country shaped by its rich diversity.

The Guthrie Theater (Joseph Haj, artistic director) today announced the nine productions of its 2019 2020 subscription season: Tennessee Williams' classic family drama The Glass Menagerie; Shakespeare's rollicking comedy Twelfth Night; an adaptation of Emma based on the Jane Austen novel; and Kander and Ebb's musical Cabaret will grace the Guthrie's signature Wurtele Thrust Stage while the McGuire Proscenium Stage's lineup will include Robert Harling's female-driven comedy Steel Magnolias; the regional premiere of Noura, Heather Raffo's complex tale of identity; Anne Bogart's acclaimed production of Euripides' The Bacchae; Karen Zacar as' comedic telenovela Destiny of Desire; and Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning Sweat.

Musicals come in different forms. Musical comedies, such as 'Cinderella' and 'School of Rock' intend to entertain. Musical dramas--think 'Dear Evan Hansen,' 'Come From Away,' and 'Hamilton,' relay thoughtful ideas in words, song and dance. The musical tragedy, such as 'Sweeney Todd' and 'The Kiss Of The Spider Woman,' which is now on stage at Blank Canvas, finds a 'victim' in a society which doesn't understand or appreciate them, resulting in dire consequences.

Abingdon Theatre Company announces the presentation of Broadway on the Bowery, a curated series of downtown cabaret, directed by Artistic Director Chad Austin, to be held monthly at the intimate entertainment venue Duane Park (308 Bowery - between Bleecker & Houston Streets). The inaugural event will be held on Tuesday, March 26th at 7:00pm. Tickets, which include the show and a three-course meal, are priced at $250 (tax deductible donation of $175) and $200 (tax deductible donation of $125) and may be purchased online at www.ovationtix.com. Spinning Tree Theatre proudly announces the 2019-20 season of four mainstage productions. The company will also inaugurate their Youth Theatre Project, a two-week musical theatre intensive for teenagers to be held June 10-23, 2019. Additionally, they will continue the Spinning Tree Sings! cabaret series featuring Kansas City-based musical theatre and jazz vocalists. Spinning Tree will produce its ninth season at Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center.
