With book from original screenwriter Tina Fey, music by Jeff Richmond, lyrics from LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL lyricist Nell Benjamin, and direction and choreography from Casey Nicholaw, the first ever national tour of MEAN GIRLS arrives in Chicago on Christmas Day. I caught up with Saxer in advance of the show's arrival to talk about her experiences with the musical and how she found her unique voice in the role of Karen.

San Francisco Playhouse announced casting for the Bay Area premiere of Groundhog Day the Musical, the hit Broadway comedy adapted from the timeless Bill Murray film. Danny Rubin, co-writer of the 1993 film, wrote the book, with music and lyrics supplied by Tony-winner Tim Minchin (Matilda). Susi Damilano will direct the Playhouse production, with music direction by Dave Dobrusky and choreography by Nicole Helfer.

Today, producers Eden Espinosa, Bridget Elise Yingling, Scott Prisand, Doug Feurring and Jana Shea announced additional stars for the one-night-only 15th Anniversary reunion concert of BKLYN: The Musical. Tony Award nominee Will Swenson (Hair, Les Miserables) will reprise his role as Taylor Collins, and Grammy Award nominee Quentin Earl Darrington (Once On This Island, CATS) will play the role of Streetsinger. Original Broadway cast members Julie Reiber (Come From Away), Horace V. Rogers (Tarzan), Caren Lyn Tackett (High Fidelity) will complete the cast, joining the previously announced Eden Espinosa (RENT, Wicked) as Brooklyn, Karen Olivo (Moulin Rouge, In the Heights) as Faith, and stage star Ramona Keller (The Public Theatre's Hercules, City Center's Little Shop of Horrors) as Paradice. Lone Star Theatre Company has announced that Kat Lozano joins ANIMAL HUSBANDRY as lead producer. The London based, Texas born, actress joins a team of producers that include producer Elda Ruiz-Dawson and associate producers Ramiro & Lupita Davila, Charles Barksdale, and Luis Ochoa-Andrade. David Davila's Animal Husbandry will premiere at the Under St. Mark's Theatre as part of the New York International Fringe Festival this October 2019 with direction by Sidney Erik Wright and intimacy choreography by Adele Rylands. The play stars David Michael Kirby and Daniel Anthony Hidalgo with lighting design by Hao Bai and costume design by Keyon Woods.

Tickets for the Brisbane season of the lavish and fun multi-million dollar musical comedy SHREK THE MUSICAL will go on sale this Friday, 27 September. The Broadway smash hit will play at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC from 9 May 2020 following seasons at the Sydney Lyric Theatre and Her Majesty's Theatre, Melbourne.

"In a story, someone had a dream. In that Dream, someone told a story." A Dream Like a Dream is one of the most celebrated Chinese theatrical masterworks of the 21st century. It was conceived and created by Stan Lai, who recently became the first Chinese theatre professional inducted into the Sibiu Walk of Fame at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, Romania's pre-eminent performing arts event. In 2002, the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre was the first professional company to mount A Dream Like a Dream, winning Best Overall Performance, Best Costume Design and Best Supporting Actor (TragedyDrama) at the 12th Hong Kong Drama Awards. After a hiatus of 17 years, the HKRep produces this work anew, co-directed by Stan Lai and HKRep Assistant Artistic Director Fung Wai Hang, with special guests Louisa So, three-time Hong Kong Drama Award Best Actor Poon Chan Leung and ViuTV series star Cecilia Choi from My Very Short Marriage leading a 30-member cast of HKRep company members and other outstanding local actors. The production runs from July 28th to September 8th at The Box, Freespace, Art Park, West Kowloon Cultural District. On July 11th, a limited number of tickets will be available for sale for the preview performance (July 27th) and the production run from URBTIX outlets and the West Kowloon Cultural District.

Ben Mingay and Lucy Durack will play the lead roles of Shrek and Princess Fiona in the lavish and fun multi-million dollar musical comedy SHREK THE MUSICAL, Australia's leading theatre producer John Frost announced today. It was also announced that Australian musical royalty Marcia Hines would play the role of the Dragon in a special guest appearance for the Sydney season. The Broadway smash hit SHREK THE MUSICAL will open at the Sydney Lyric Theatre, The Star in early January 2020, followed by seasons at Her Majesty's Theatre, Melbourne from February and at the Lyric Theatre, Brisbane following.

The 72nd Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 10th at 8/9c hosted by Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. We can't help but wonder what chances this year's Best Musical and Best Play nominees have of taking home the ultimate prize...

The 2019 Tony nominees are already winners... literally. For some, this marks their first nomination, but others have already won Tony Awards in seasons past. We took a look at which nominees have won at least a Tony or two (or nine) - amongst them, they've gathered a total of 69 awards!
